The Witch was hot garbage, but this looks interesting as fuck. I am in.
Technically its VVitch. You do realise its just called The Witch, not the \/\/itch
I didnt think it was hot garbage, but its a mess. There were so many flashes of greatness, but the fucker needed an editor. So many parts led to no where. Made me feel it was a Shock Value movie directed by someone taking it seriously. The Witch was hot garbage, but this looks interesting as fuck. I am in.
The Witch is a lot of things, but a mess isn't one of them. it reminded me of The Shining in that every stitch of the movie was deliberate.I didnt think it was hot garbage, but its a mess. Also, couldnt understand much.
I cant remember the sequence but there were a few parts where i knew they forgot some shit. The Witch is a lot of things, but a mess isn't one of them. it reminded me of The Shining in that every stitch of the movie was deliberate.

There was a morning where they wake up and there are dead bodies. But...i didnt see any children, just animals. So, where are her brother and sister? The end, was she always a witch or become one? And then there was the boy and him going into the woods, coming back sick, i was like...huh?
VVitch was one of those movies that pretenda to be a smarter than your average flick, but it forgot it needed structure.
Reminded me of True Detective season 2, honestly.
iirc, this scene was shot in a wide shot, so the massacre was intentionally undefined, but it was pretty clearly insinuated that all the farm animals were slaughtered (minus Black Phillip) & the twins were either killed or taken. the focus was put on the father coming out of the house & finding the gruesome barn scene because this was his reckoning, which was more important to the progression of the climax than showing the audience what happened to the twins. There was a morning where they wake up and there are dead bodies. this is purposely ambiguous, much in the same way we're left wondering whether Jack Torrence was experiencing a psychological breakdown or a supernatural phenomenon in The Shining. or alternatively, whether Jack Torrence was a real person existing in the present or the manifestation of a phantom from the past. The end, was she always a witch or become one?
there was a scene that showed Caleb stumbling upon the witch's hovel. And then there was the boy and him going into the woods, coming back sick, i was like...huh?
I mean, sure, why not. Let the audience fill in the blanks, right? The witch took them. Likely used them in the ritual at the end of the movie.
Yes, she became a witch. The movie was more or less her hazing ritual to get into the fraternity.
Ambiguity is a double sided sword. On one hand, its nice to be able to figure things outs. On the other, audiences dont want that cuz the movie is escape, theyre there to be told a stort, not do more work.iirc, this scene was shot in a wide shot, so the massacre was intentionally undefined, but it was pretty clearly insinuated that all the farm animals were slaughtered (minus Black Phillip) & the twins were either killed or taken. the focus was put on the father coming out of the house & finding the gruesome barn scene because this was his reckoning, which was more important to the progression of the climax than showing the audience what happened to the twins.

not all movies are intended for a general audience that is looking to have their hand held. will you be surprised when The Witch stands the test of time compared to something like Insidious?Ambiguity is a double sided sword. The Shining has also had time to solidify itself as a classic, so modern audiences are more willing to give it the benefit of a doubt when it presents challenges that demand more mental participation than the typical horror film. Its not hot garbage as another said, just a mess. The Shining had a much more polished scope for the casual and those seeking the ambiguous.

Technically its VVitch.
When I think about going nuts the first thing that comes to mind is Willem DaFoe.
A+ casting
Maybe i wanted to see it, being a horror fan and all. Missed opportunity. Was it really hard to figure out that the Witch who took children and babies for nefarious purposes took two other children? For something not pleasant at all?
Well, you can get mad about it if ya want.Well no, it's not. Not a big deal, just a little pet peeve of mine.
