The last penny was minted today

Of the large cents, the Draped Bust design is my favorite:

For the small cents, the Indian Head is my favorite:

Production is over, but not the use. The current pennies in circulation will remain in use for years to come.

About 250 billion pennies in circulation.

I'm betting when the current pennies begin to disappear, production will start back up.

The $2 bill is still being made and in circulation.

They will 100% still make them for collectors again.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Mint does 1/10 oz gold varieties as well, the whole run of the small cents in pure gold would be a cool little set.

Depends on the prices at the time. They won't make pennies if a box of matches will cost $10
Americans will always want exact change. To the penny. No rounding things off like Third World Countries.

I don't know about making pennies again for collectors.
Pennies were made of copper-plated zinc. 2.5% copper and 97.5% zinc.
In 1943, due to the war, pennies were made of steel.
In 1974 experimental pennies were made of aluminum.
I think aluminum would be the cheapest way to go if they are brought back.

I meant they would produce them just for collectors. Small limited runs, not bring them back into circulation for collectors.

I feel like I have owned a lot of these pennies it is a gold rush I missed out on. Same thing with Pokemon if I had my 1998 cards I would probably have like an extra 3 million dollars. I also should have collected ken griffey cards in the 90s and jordan.

It's not the cost of the materials so much as the labor and other factors that make them more expensive to make than they are worth.
Trust me, they can easily find ways to generate a metal disk that small for under a penny.
What am I actually missing. Change up the metals it make it smaller.
I have to be missing something this full retarded lol

I dunno if its true or not but i heard McDonalds is going to be rounding everything up. So if an item ends up costing $1.96 they are going to be charging $2.00

Checkers by my house rounds up or down. It annoys the hell out of me.

Do we need to make more penny's? Do we not have a ton of them in circulation? I don't wanna round up and spend 3 extra cents everytime I buy something. And I think these fucks will figure out how to price everything so they always get the roundup next.

Can't believe people are complaining because the retailer might round a price up two cents.

*you sound poor

Their prices will have to be different in every state to reflect every states sales tax, but they already do that.

This is so long overdue I wish Trump would have just excised the nickel while he was at it. By the time we get around to getting rid of it, they will cost a quarter to make. It's so fucking dumb.

Good thing all the 99c stores closed last year. What an uproar that would have caused!

So you're saying the US government should change up the composition of a coin that increasingly has less and less value, especially with cash becoming a less popular form of payment, just because... reasons?

Sounds like the retard is staring at you in the mirror.
