Chan Sung Jung put his MMA career on hold in Oct. 2014 to fulfill his mandatory military service required of South Korean male citizens, however, according to sources close to him, the popular South Korean featherweight isn't done fighting yet.

Jung's military service comes to an end in mid-October 2016, and according to his team, he is hoping to fight in the UFC again in late 2016 or early 2017. His return could coincide, naturally, with the UFC's return to South Korea.

"I think this may extend my career, because it gives me some much needed time to heal I'll have time to work on my skills without pushing myself to the limit, which is necessary when training for a fight."

Who would you like to fight him next?

I'd like him to wait til 2017 unless he's getting a tune up fight for a late 2016 return.

What's the story behind his right toe and foot in the pic? Looks all sorts of wrong.

Jung was expected to face Ricardo Lamas on July 6, 2013 at UFC 162

I want this fight to happen, but KZ needs someone from bottom top15 (Guida/Tavares/Ortega), not top 5 guy in the return

I remember seeing guys do that when they had a split or cracked nail so it wouldn't catch on anything while training

Ortega is a high risk low reward fight. Id rather KZ fight an aging big name like Guida than a rising but mostly unknown Ortega. Tavares is an alright option too.

KZ vs Kawajiri to headline a card in Seoul would be the home run.

Makes sense, fuck having it catch anything.

Did you enlarge the pic though and see how weird it looked? There seems to be a large quanitity of discolored skin. Yikes, hope he kicked with his shin during that time, too many top fighters still flick kick with their feet. Fuck that, protect your feet and kick like a Thai.

I am seeing the discoloration now and ya its nasty. I remember at the Sityodtong, I think it was Jorge Rivera, split his toenail down the middle and the left half ripped completely off. More blood than a broken nose, nasty stuff.

Yeah, it really looks gross. I haven't been hurt from a pulled off nail nor partial breakage but it can be pretty messy if it's a rough tear and not a clean seperation.

These elite guys can't afford to be kicking with so much force while landing with their feet and toes, the shin is so much stronger as much as the feet and toes are so much weaker. I really hope an MMA fighter who stays true to Traditional Muay Thai takes the world by storm and teaches these guys how to properly kick. Feet and toe injuries are a bitch and such a shame in this sport.

"It is said that The Korean Zombie wades into battle with two swords and no shield." - (have no idea who said this, I think it was Goldberg)

Still my favorite fighter below 155.

Mendes is 0-2 now, I think KZ can take Mendes with his grappling style to neutralize the prototypical wrestler.

3 year layoff vs 0-2 sounds fair.
