yeah i'm not shitting on him for fighting people with little experience, he himself has little experience. there's no problem with any of that.Totally agreed. They are both annoying as hell and I can't wait to see Paul lose.
The issue is people create this fake argument of "fight a real boxer." What does that mean? Why is Jake a real boxer? Is Tommy Fury a real boxer? How about Rahman Jr? Or does Jake need to fight Jai Opetaia to prove he is a "real" boxer? Aside from fighters that have extensive amateur backgrounds, world champions are fighting complete cans early on in their career. Many of those fights are also fixed/corrupt decisions to give up-and-comers the win.
I dislike Jake, it sounds like you despise him to an unhealthy extent, but I get it. He is an annoying YouTube star that never needed to box, but he did it anyway, which makes me respect him in that regard. Yes, he claims to be elite, but he has also rolled back some claims. He told Eddie Hearn to his face that he will beat anyone in his stable with less than 10 fights. That sounds fairly reasonable to me, even though he'd likely lose to most. You can't deny people are upset that he is beating former MMA champions. You're on an MMA message board for crying out loud -- a lot of people are wounded about that.
Now if he beats Rahman, everyone that hates him (likely yourself) will trash the win and say Rahman sucked. Fine, but then again, Jake isn't a real boxer is he? Who does he need to beat to satisfy randomg1t?
but there is a big difference between a boxer quietly amassing experience and beating up cans early in his career, and a loudmouth like jake doing it in main events and getting the same (or more) amount of media attention as legitimate world champions beating legitimate contenders. now, media attention isn't something we can blame him for, but we definitely can blame him for what he does with that media attention. he's an obnoxious cunt. i mean that much is undeniable, right?
there's a solid argument to be made about jake putting in the work and just winning fights. the dude obviously trains hard, and he keeps winning, which is the whole point. but he isn't really trying to become a good boxer if he's fighting people like ben askren, for fuck's sake. he's literally looking for the biggest name with the least skill. it's celebrity boxing at best. he's faced a youtuber who can't box, an old NBA star who can't box, a wrestler who can't box, and then an over the hill ex MMA champion who probably actually can box, but doesn't.
watch canelo's early fights when he was lighting up nobodies and show me someone as terrible as ben askren or nate robinson.
if paul really wanted to be a professional boxer, he could be one. i think he has enough talent and athleticism to win pro fights against semi-competent opposition. he isn't taking any titles, but he can win fights. but he doesn't want to be a professional boxer. he wants to act like one, and be treated like one in every way, except for fighting other people with the same aspirations.... which is kind of the whole point.
i can't speak for anyone else, but i personally don't give a single fuck about him beating MMA fighters. i don't feel like i need to display any kind of loyalty to any of them, and i'm not really a fan of askren or woodley.
and to be completely honest, i haven't seen rahman fight yet, so i have no idea if he's any good or not. he seems like a big fella, and he's the first opponent paul has faced that has actually fought before. everyone before him was either making their debut or having just lost to jake. this is definitely a step up.
what jake paul needs to do to satisfy me (hehe) is to shut the fuck up for five minutes and not act like a manchild. he is insufferable in every interview. as far as his fighting career, a steady stream of people his size, with a comparable amount of boxing experience would definitely help. if his next 5 opponents have solid records and have actually trained boxing professionally for several years, i'll definitely respect his fighting record a lot more.
