The Huntington Beach Bad Boy

‘The Huntington Beach Bad Boy’ Tito Ortiz was one of the pioneers of promoting fights in MMA, with his brash personality, his fued with the Lion’s Den, and his notorious t-shirts, combined with his dominant top control and ground and pound style, Tito quickly rose to become the UFC’s first real star.

Tito Ortiz vs Ken Shamrock at UFC 40, essentially saved the UFC from going bankrupt, the event did 150,000 buys (three times the average of their usual numbers).

The fight was highly anticipated as the animosity between Ortiz and Shamrock had been brewing for years. Ortiz defeated Lion’s Den fighters Guy Mezger and Jerry Bohlander. After avenging his first defeat to Mezger, Tito Ortiz would proceed to taunt the Lion’s Den.

With the real bad blood between Ortiz and Shamrock between their contrasting personalities and everything that transpired between the two of them this was the UFC’s biggest grudge match at the time.

Tito’s top control and ground and pound proved to be too much for seasoned Ken Shamrock as he secured a 3rd round finish to defend his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.

Tito Ortiz at one point held the record for most UFC Light Heavyweight Championship title defenses at 5. He has 6 UFC championship wins under his belt.

Tito saw a decline when he had to have back surgery and would suffer a losing streak, in 2011 after haven gone nearly 5 years without a victory, Tito’s back was against the wall as he faced a young Ryan Bader. Tito Ortiz knocked Bader down and finished him with a guillotine choke in an impressive first round stoppage victory and showed that he was not finished yet.

His rivalries with Chuck Liddell, Ken Shamrock and the Lion’s Den, and even Dana White are some of the greatest of all time in MMA.

Tito may not be the greatest of all time but he was one of the pioneers of MMA and paved the way for future stars of the sport.

Before Conor McGregor, before Chael Sonnen, before Brock Lesnar, before Ronda Rousey, there was ‘The Huntington Beach Bad Boy’ Tito Ortiz.

And a cracked skull, these playbois these days pull out of fights with bruises

2019 fighters be like bruised toe can't fight.

Meanwhile prime Tito was fighting straight outta the hospital with cracked skulls and fractured necks

The fans who entered during the TUF years or later will never understand how Tito carried the UFC through some really dark, bleak years.

Say what you want about Tito but his contribution to the UFC cannot be understated.

Always think of Tank Abbott as the Huntington Beach Bad Boy, but I guess Tito coined the term.

I just can't believe he beat Jerry Bohlander

no one beats Jerry Bohlander

What the fuck is going on in here. Random shit about ol Jacob

Lol at big Jon picking up Tito and carrying him away. Also, props to Tito for not attacking Big John when he did that.

I've always wondered why fighters put up with Jon's tactics of manhandling them. Tank Abbot almost fucked him up for that garbage.

Didn't hurt that Hughes, Newton, Lawler and Liddell fought on that card too.

Tito was the original heel. I loathed him for the longest time, but I always watched.

He was also the first big name fighter that I'm aware of that put cardio above all else, and at least one of the first that brought in professional nutritionists, boxing coaches etc. to his camps.

He was ahead of his time, and love or hate him he changed the game.

One of the best nicknames in the history of the sport

Ortiz vs Shamrock was a very important fight at the time, bud.

Tito definitely helped mma/ufc go mainstream

From his appearance to his trash talking

He was definitely an interesting character

Either you loved him or you hated him

Not too many ppl were indifferent when it comes to Tito.

His fights with ken definitely help bring over many sports fans to mma.

After that he help guys like Liddell n couture cross over with their rivalries

This is around the time I started following mma again after the original Gracie runs.

I just wanted to see ken beat up that arrogant bleached hair prick.

After that I just wanted anybody less to put a beating on his ass.

You´re damn right @BC

GOAT fighter, GOAT comedian.

Despite his antics he’s always a pro

N even with his beef with shamrock, it was always Ken who would escalate things n become physical
