The dishonest part is that GSP "ruined" the MW division

He most likely saved the division by taking out Bisping, who was 100% going for money fights

Because he took the belt from him and vacated it a mere month after, we got the Witthaker/Romero rivalry, for the belt

He didn't pull out a Jon Jones, and stalled the entire division

He lied to get that title shot, told Dana he was healthy and would defend. It tarnished his legacy forever.
 
GSP's was not crap by any means. left on top, came back, snagged the belt a division higher and said i'm good, i'm out again. that's pretty damn badass if you ask me.
 
GSP had the perfect retirement imo because he retired on his own terms, with a good win/finish, rich and set for life, loved by fans and respected by other fighters, healthy with all his marbles, and he pissed uncle Fester on the way out (bonus)


How did he ruin the MW division? He relinquished the belt as soon as he learned he had colitis and was done fighting for good. He would have ruined the division if he did what Jones' doing, but he did the right thing instead.

And what came after (Bobby Knuckle, the Adesanya era, DDP, etc.) is pretty awesome. That division is thriving

Didn't cut his career short making you wonder what could have been. Kept fighting until he couldn't anymore. Kept fighting until he looked so old and slow that he couldn't beat anyone in the top 10. Kept fighting until everyone thought, "Jesus, if this guy ages another day, a stiff breeze will beat him. I hope he never comes out of retirement for one last fight, because it would be a joke. And whoever beats him would deserve zero credit, because it would be like beating child."

At the end of the Day, that is a matter of opinion and while I don't agree with that at all, I can see from where you're coming from

But I'm with you for Nunes retirement tho
It's almost unfortunate that she's coming back.
Riding into the Sunset with two belts was arguably the ultimate retirement

Regardless of any of them had a chance on paper, having 13 total UFC fights when guys like GSP/Mouse/Silva/Jones had almost that many title wins kinda sucks the wind out of the sails on GOAT talks and he was a GOAT candidate.

That being said, him coaching Islam to the title and all these defenses makes Khabib the greatest MMA participant of all time, imho.
 
Jones can retire now and he'll be the only guy who went undefeated next to Habib. Lets face it, most of the people who want Jones to fight again probably want him to lose.

Yes. That's a real Cinderella ending , and he won a Harley Davidson as well that night if I remember correctly
 
Probably Tony Ferguson. The stars had to align perfectly:
- Be at the top of the division on a historic win streak. Only achievement left is to actually get the belt.
- Get beaten into a living death by Justin Gaethje. Actually get coached by Eddie Bravo to do an imanari roll, and fail embarrassingly.
- Lose 7 more fights
- Receive perfect highlight reel KO of the decade from Chandler
- Get choked out by semi-retired Nate Diaz
- Get choked out by King Green, who has never submitted or finished anyone else in his life
- Lose to a gassed Paddy Pimblett
- Get choked out by Michael Chiesa, the most annoying fighter in the history of the division
- Get cut and sign with GFL
- GFL goes bankrupt without holding a single event
 
Not a #1 pick but didn't Matt Brown retire on the Diego KO then came back?
