The Fugitive (1993)

Maybe one night I'll have to do a D-Tox/Avenging Angelo double-feature so I can see what I was missing.

D-Tox isn't good, but it isn't utterly abysmal. It's more notable for being an utterly abysmal commercial failure than an utterly abysmal movie. Budget: $55 Million. US Gross: $79,000. Yes, 79 thousand.

As for Avenging Angelo... Really wouldn't have been out of place with mid-90s network thriller TV movies like Fatal Whatever and Fatal Durkadurkadurk.

LOL. I actually chuckled a bit.

Did it even get a real theatrical release? With a box office return like that, it's hard to imagine that it did.

The more you tell me about it, the more I feel like I just HAVE to see it.

Not really. It sat on the shelf for a long time unreleased, even the title was in question, then reshoots were done. By the time it limped out into some kind of release, there was bad word of mouth and the execs just decided to cut their losses and try to make back some % in foreign markets and DVD. It was treated like The Day the Clown Cried, even though it wasn't all that bad.

Go for it. Just be prepared for Madeleine Stowe to look nothing like she did in Last of the Mohicans. She was going through a Meg Ryan phase.

I'm not sure what this means, or even if it's a good or bad thing.

Well...

...I'll leave it to your subjective opinion whether thish ish a good shing or a bad shing.

Oh okay, so you didn't mean THIS kind of Meg Ryan phase:

I really don't know WHAT in the hell happened to Meg BTW. She never did strike me as the kind of girl who would go off the deep end with the plastic surgery but she for damn sure proved me wrong.

I think the whole Dennis Quaid / Russell Crowe thing kind of sent her into a tailspin.

One of Harrison Ford's finest performances. Really raises the film from mere action/thriller, to feeling more like a true drama. Tommy Lee Jones chews up his role in every scene. Great direction, some classic set pieces that rival De Palma. Great pace to the film as well, and just the right amount of story packed in, it's just big enough without being too big. Classic movie.

Not counting any of the Indiana Jones movies, this would be my favorite HF film.

Check out Regarding Henry if you haven't seen it. Hugely underrated movie, and arguably Harrison Ford's very best performance.

@shadow_priest_x you might want to give that one a watch sometime too if you haven't already seen it

I saw Regarding Henry many years ago. I do remember it being very good, but it's been so long that I don't remember much about it. Maybe time for a re-watch.

Since we're naming old Harrison Ford movies that we like, I've always had a fondness for Sabrina.

Yeah Harrison Ford is one of those likeable actors for me, always watchable in a role as long as he, as you said earlier, gives a shit.

More recently, I liked him in Ender's Game. It was a supporting role, and he could have easily just phoned it in; but instead he put some effort in, & really added his weight to the film.

Speaking of Ender's Game, considering the enduring popularity of the source material I was really surprised that it didn't perform better at the box office. I thought for sure it would be the start of a franchise but it looks like one-and-done for that one.

That works for me. The ending of that film is so poignant, it leaves the viewer with such a thing to ponder, a franchise would have only cheapened it I think. I love it as a one-shot.

Holy crap dude. You hadn't seen The Fugitive either?

You should watch The Shawshank Redemption too.

;)

LOL

Seen that one.

I actually was trying to think earlier about other action films that I need to catch up on (that aren't Die Hard or LW sequels). I'm sure I'll come up with a few more but nothing's coming to mind at the moment.

I like to think my incessant bullying is part of what got him to finally watch those

You're probably right, in all seriousness.

So of course now I will feel entirely justified in going on the offensive regarding you watching Lord of the Rings.
