He was a mad scientist of MMA. Dude was an animal and he mainly worked with Richard and Joe Diesel Riggs. You can plenty of Billy aside with the Diesel in the old UFC DVDs. I plan on posting them because they talk about nutrition, potassium and sodium control and also fibers as well as starches to prime your body for recovery and elevating your body`s natural growth hormone and testosterone through correct combination of foods at the right time.

Below pic, he helped Riggs be at his best:

His passing was truly tragic and he had his demons. Before the diesel, he was working at a gas station and he got in to MMA. He fought few times and he was the FIRST well known MMA nutritionist. I plan on gathering videos about him talking about nutrition and release it to the public. Nothing on him on YouTube. This man deserves his recognition. Really sad how things ended for him...

RIP to the Mad Scientist!

I just found an old thread from 2006...

https://forums.sherdog.com/threads/billy-rush.390224/

Damn I had no idea older threads from the 2000s still exist!

I thought shit got wiped when forum software changed.

Sounds like a GOAT.

He was the original MMA nutritionist. He stayed at your place, prepped all your meals and did your strength and conditioning. He was also a pad holder for boxing and kickboxing.

Shit I legit forgot about that guy

Haven't heard that name in ages

Boxers are never forgotten and neither are boxing trainers. But MMA fighters and trainers become forgotten so easily. Kind of sad and I am not sure why.

How did he pass?

Man.... fans, promoters and athletes themselves really just throw out "legend" and "GOAT" in this sport on a whim huh.

I remember Riggs praising him very highly. I wasn't aware he passed away. That sucks.

Speaking of Riggs, I hope all is well with you, Ogata.

I keep forgetting Ogata is Joe Riggs. I should stop telling him I'm going to kick his ass because I couldn't even beat Ogata when I thought he designed pastries and chased butterflies, so I'm definitely out of my element now.

I remember Billy Rush. He was the first Dolce-type character. When Riggs dropped down in weight, he was about as strong as a human could be.

How would you know boxers are never forgotten? You just don't remember them. There literally would have been hundreds of thousands of boxers in the past. List the top 15000 without using the internet to look them up.
Stop being a dip stick, Jimmy.

How did he pass?

I heard different stories. One was overdose and the other was crashing his car to a tree, getting out of the car and setting himself on fire.

It was extreme and he was a bit of a headcase but by far one of the most brilliant guys in dieting, nutrition and conditioning.

I am not Riggs but rather a fan of him.

Now look at the pics below!

You have nasty gnp.

Would love to Gnp some young hotties.

Guy was definitively a unique fixture in a darker age of mma. Quite the blast from the past moment. Was sad when I heard of his passing

He was a very interesting person and crazy stories about him being brilliant but insane. One revolved around Billy hiring a prostitute and having her be his therapist.

Joe is in better shape than Jimmy Hah!

R.I.P brother, you were a pioneer sir.

Billy Rush killed himself like a decade ago, no? I remember his cause of death was very unclear in terms of what was put out to the media, but when you factor in his long history of mental health issues and reported substance abuse, a lot of people jumped to conclusions which turned out to be true as more fighters that knew Billy opened up about his death.

Regardless, in the mid-2000's, there were a ton of high-level fighters that swore by his S&C programming and nutrition advise, especially when it came to the weight cut side of the house.
