It's different when you are at a high level competition where essentially everything is on the line for you. You will fight it at all costs and injuries will happen.
Just like trying to stop an ippon and using your arm to break it in every wrong way you were told not to.
Agreed, I watched an elite level tournement and saw people doing everything I was told not to do to avoid a throw for score: Posting on arms, twisting on heads ect.
Much respect to the high level guys, but I got a family to take care of. I need my limbs and spine intact, I'll just trust my ukemi and take the ippon for a loss if I get caught in a throw.
