Professor Zoom Reportedly Set to Appear in FLASH TV Series

Flashpoint-5-Professor-Zoom-Dragonlord.jpg

According to the Bludhaven Banter, a supporting character set to appear in the Flash pilot could very well turn out to be Professor Zoom and recur on the eventual series if it’s picked up by The CW. While it’s always good to exercise caution when believing rumors–especially those that come from small and fairly young sites (Bludhaven Banter has been around for only a few months)–it was the site that made a splash back in early December by reporting that casting calls wanted an African-American to play Iris West (as well as her father, Detective West). Since then, that report seems to have been confirmed when Ghosbusters star Ernie Hudson told a podcast that he’s reading for a part on the series, which sounds suspiciously like the previously-leaked descriptions of Detective West.

In pilot episode for The Flash, Bludhaven Banter reports that there is a character called “Detective Eddie Thawne” which sounds a lot like Eobard Thawne, the name of Professor Zoom. The site did some additional digging and the description for the character states that he is “leading man handsome” (late 20s-early/mid 30s) and has recently transferred to Central City Police Department from Keystone. Thawne is set to be loved within the precinct and takes the credit for a lot of things that Barry can’t. However, the most intriguing part about this character is that his past will be a complete mystery. No one knows where he comes from, and he “harbors a dark secret.”

Pretty pumped for this, Grant impressed me on Arrow so I have high hopes. I don't know any of these villains rarely so I don't mind who else is in it.

Zoom's such an underrated villain, I imagine Grodd won't make the cut unfortunately

Probably not. Or at least not in the first season or two. You've gotta build up to that kind of weird when your starting with such a grounded foundation.

Hey JBS, remember this little comment I made about my Flash casting for the JL movie around early September before they cast Gustin as Barry Allen:

Comments: What a weird coincidence. For the past few days, I've been busy making my "Superhero Fantasy Casting" for Justice League. Two days ago, I briefly considered Matt Barr for my Flash based on what I saw from him in Hellcats. But in the end, I scratched off his name because he was a bit awkward-looking for my taste as Barry Allen. As for who ended up with the role, he's a theater actor with a show in the USA Network.

I forgot to reveal who it was. Well, my initial pick was Aaron Tveit for Barry Allen.

Looking back at it, it's funny how The CW chose Grant Gustin who has a similar look to Aaron Tveit (Aaron's a bit manlier though). I became an instant fan of Tveit after watching his commanding performance in Les Miserables. He's now starring in USA Network's Graceland.

Tveit eventually got replaced by the more suitable Scott Speedman in my JL casting.

I was looking at an earlier post and found this gem:

This casting sounds awful. The actor is 23 and looks about 16. I don't think I can take this new series seriously any more.

 I think they did a good job of having him look his actual age instead of a highschooler.

Hahaha. I used to watch Glee (don't judge me!) and your reaction would probably be worse if you knew he played a weasly gay a cappella singer. Talented kid though.

Iris West Audition Video Suggests Trickster to Appear in FLASH

Trickster-Flash-0105-Dragonlord.jpg

Back in December, a leaked casting call revealed a description for Iris West in the upcoming Flash TV series on The CW. In the comic books, Iris West was once Barry Allen’s wife, even though in the current re-launched DC Universe she is just his friend. According to the leaked description, Iris West in the Flash TV universe will be Barry Allen’s sister of sorts. Iris West is described as an African-American in the 22 to 28 year age range. Her father, Detective West, took Barry in after his mother was murdered and his father was wrongly accused and imprisoned for her murder. Iris is also described as Barry’s mile a minute, fast-talking, quick-witted best friend. Barry has strong feelings for Iris, but she’s unaware of those feelings.

Comicbook.com received a tip from an unconfirmed source that newcomer Christine Shepherd and Veronica Mars’ Tessa Thompson have tested for the Iris West role. According to the source, a casting decision has not yet been made. The source also indicated a casting decision would be made soon, likely sometime in February 2014.

In an Iris West audition tape posted by actress Abby Wake that's released online, reading the part of Barry Allen says, “We’ll catch this Trickster, whoever he is.” Of course, Trickster is the name of a member of Flash’s rogues gallery and is most famously known as a con artist who uses gadgets to do amazing tricks. While it’s always possible that the quote from the TV series audition is using the word “trickster” generically, it does seem to be an obvious call-out to the famous Flash villain.

Jesse L. Martin Cast as Detective West in THE FLASH TV Series

Jesse-Martin-Flash-0121-Dragonlord.jpg

The CW is rounding out the cast for The Flash. The network has enlisted Law & Order alum Jesse L. Martin to co-star in the Arrow spinoff built around speedster The Flash, THR has learned. Grant Gustin stars as Barry Allen/The Flash in the pilot, which will be an origin story similar to what producers did with Stephen Amell starrer Arrow. Barry, who appeared in Arrow's two-part winter finale, is described a Central City assistant police forensic investigator who arrives in Starling City to look into a series of unexplained robberies that may have a connection to a tragedy in his past.

Martin -- who played Detective Ed Green for nearly 200 episodes on the Dick Wolf procedural -- will portray Detective West, an honest, blue-collar cop who is a surrogate father to Barry. A soulful, funny and caring father to Iris -- Barry's potential love interest -- West came up through the foster care system and took Barry in after his mother's slaying and father's imprisonment. He believes in Barry and supports his efforts to prove his father's innocence.

Ha I doubt such an exotic villain like Grodd will make the cut unfortunately.

I do hope the rogues will appear (most likely they will). Their code of honor system would be great to highlight and kinda blur the lines between hero and villains. Maybe they can even be showcased as heroic at some point like Captain Cold and Lex Luthor are in Forever Evil arc.

Also, I wonder if they'll be metahumans or technological in the show.

Most likely the Rogues will be tech-based since most of them get their powers from their weapons.

wasn't it that in the New 52 their genes got fused with their weaponry or something? Because the Earth 3 firestorm split Captain Cold's metahuman genes from him and forced him to revert back to his ice gun when fighting the crime syndicate.

Sadly, I haven't been following the new 52 that much.

in the new Forever Evil series Deathstorm (aka Earth 3 Firestorm) reversed this process on Captain Cold

i liked the original flash tv show, do you think they will use it as some sort of blueprint for this

Jesse L. Martin Cast as Detective West in THE FLASH TV Series

Jesse-Martin-Flash-0121-Dragonlord.jpg

Fuck yeah, Ed Green!

Reverse Flash is a lock to be in it, Barry made reference to his mother's murder that sounds just like him in one of his Arrow appearances.

I would guess that at least a couple of the Rogues will show up in the first series.

Trickster, Pied Piper and Heatwave would be my choices. Maybe Weather Wizard, that would be interesting.

Save Captain Cold for later and Mirror Master for if/when they start featuring more meta/magic type storylines.

Gorilla Grodd would be awesome, but unlikely.

the fact that flash's rogues all are gadget/tech type criminals actually works in the shows favor in regards to budget...the super power in flash is actually flash..except for zoom

Professor Zoom and Killer Frost Cast in THE FLASH TV Series

theflash_comic.jpg

The Vampire Diaries' Rick Cosnett and Danielle Panabaker (Shark, Sky High) are set to co-star opposite Grant Gustin and Jesse L. Martin in the CW pilot The Flash, based on the DC comic. The project, from Warner Bros TV and Berlanti Productions, is an origin story about Barry Allen aka The Flash (Gustin), a Central City assistant police forensics investigator who arrives in Starling to look into a series of unexplained robberies that may have a connection to a tragedy in his past. Originally envisioned as a backdoor pilot episode of Arrow, Flash will now film a regular pilot directed by David Nutter, a move clearly geared toward a series pickup.

Cosnett plays star Detective Eddie Thawne, a recent transfer to the Central City Police Department, whose past is a mystery and who harbors a dark secret. Panabaker plays Caitlin Snow, a highly intelligent bioengineering expert who lost her fianc

I suppose the name "Eobard" would throw up a few red flags, No good guy ever has a name like that :)

When I saw Panabaker's name, I thought she'd be playing Patty Spivot, not Killer Frost.

She doesn't exactly exude evil. Not gonna be negative, though.

Any word on who might be playing Iris? Dragonlord, fantasy casting? I'm stumped on her.

SUPERNATURAL Spinoff, IZOMBIE, THE FLASH Get Pilot Orders

iZombie-The-Flash-Dragonlord.jpg

The CW is doubling down on Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas and Supernatural. The network has picked up to pilot Thomas' DC Comics adaptation iZombie, the rumored Supernatural spinoff and made official its pilot order for fellow DC entry Flash, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Supernatural: Tribes will explore the clashing hunter and monster cultures of Chicago and hails from writer Supernatural's Andrew Dabb, who will exec produce alongside Eric Kripke, Robert Singer, showrunner Jeremy Carver and McG. Singer will direct the Warner Bros. Television entry.

iZombie is described as a supernatural crime procedural that centers on a medical student-turned-zombie who takes a job in the Coroner's Office in order to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat so that she can maintain her humanity. However, with every brain she eats, she inherits the corpse's memories. With the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head.

The network confirmed its pilot order for Arrow spinoff The Flash, which was formerly intended to be a planted episode but will now be filmed as a stand-alone. Grant Gustin stars as scientist Barry Allen and is given the power of super-speed that transforms him into the Fastest Man Alive. Arrow's Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and DC's Geoff Johns will pen the script and executive produce alongside David Nutter, who will direct the pilot.
