Santos had some fame when GSP was on top with that sub, but it faded away as many people forgot. He's older so now is the time to make a run.

Way too much was made of that win though, it was in like 2005 and GSP was a purple belt at the time IIRC. Would've loved to see GSP try out some high level grappling competition later in his career after he had really refined his grappling.

For sure. Santos at the time was doing a lot of BJJ tourneys and winning medals.

15 fighters could get a top 15 opponent, they would just have to be ranked 16th or worse.

but that would never happen and MOST ranked fighters would be looking for another ranked opponent. only maybe 2 fights who are unranked get to fight ranked fighter at any time
