The fight that defined GSP

The main evolution & adjustment between the 1st & the 2nd fight: Mousasi´s footwork while closin´the distance.

And, yeah... go-to-move indeed, Shlemenko style...

ATTENTION: I see no anti GSP rhetoric in this post. Keep up the good work.

They were never high level fighters except for the fact that going into the GSP fight they were on win streaks and weren’t getting finished like they did post-GSP

What kind of stupid logic is this? Even for a Anderoid nuthugger this is retarded
lmao Fitch was like on a 16 fight win streak, and won 5 in a row after he lost to GSP

Guys records at the time they fought GSP for the title

Kosheck 14 - 4 in the UFC with 3 wins in a row (Trigg,Rumble Johnson,Daley)
Hughes and BEEJ obviously needs no introduction
Alves on a 7 fight win streak (Alessio,De Souza,Hironaka,Lytle,Parisyan,Hughes,Koschek)
Hardy on a 4 fight win streak (Weichel,Gono,Markham,Davis,Swick) GSP's weakest challenger,i think we all agree on that. Not his fault he cleaned out the div.
BECAUSE GSP cleaned it out, they needed to bring in Jake Shields, and he only had one UFC win, against Martin Kampman before the shot, but hed been strikeforce champ before that and was on a 15 fight win streak, and had just defended it against Dan Henderson, who has fought as high as HW btw, before he got to ufc.
Condit on a 5 fight win streak (Ellenberger,Rory Mac,Dan Hardy,Don Hyun Kim,and Nick Diaz)
Nick Diaz had an 11 fight win streak, but lost to condit, and then simply talked his way back into a title shot from there.
Hendricks, fight win streak (Waldburger,Pierce,Firth,Koschek,Kampmann,Condit)

I think Ive seen enough here.

But because he got finished after fighting GSP he sucks

<36>

Fitch is probably the only legitimate opponent, having gone 13:4 after gsp, endured the test of time.
But yes, Gsp should have been able to finish him.

Shut up man. Your logic is so stupid I’m not entertaining it anymore

Why? so many guys found this to be very difficult.
And GSP hit him with many hard shots. The guy is durable as fuck.

Though many of us do not agree on gsp here, I think we can all agree that the gifs in this thread have been A+.

There is so much back and forth about the quality of georges' opponents. Maybe we should set focus on another metric that is actually measurable without subjectivity. If we just look at his finishing rate, its quite obvious that he just isnt on the same level as fedor, bones amanda and anderson. The 4 true goats of the sport have finished so many of their opponents and they have done so in spectacular fashion. They arent just finishing dan hardy and thiago laves types, they are finishing former world champions, fighters above their own weight class and mostly doing it with the title on the line.

The numbers dont lie.

GSP thought he was a solid striker, he also thought Matt Serra was a big can and decided he will play around for a round, to test his striking skills. He didn't go for a single take down, he thought this fight is too easy and a good opportunity to test his striking skills, maybe get a nice KO highlight.

He never fought on his feet again. This was the last time he played the striker. In the rematch he would take Serra down in the first 2 seconds and repeatedly take him down when Serra stood up.
This was the fight that turned GSP into the ufc wrestling control freak and according to many the most boring ufc champ to this day with 0 finishes.

He threw the fight for the ratings for the UFC's TV show. How people can't spot works amazes me.

Cool gifs but I think it reinforces my point. All those are either a miss or to the body... so matches with Gegard’s level change (while Hall was facing away from him) being responsible for the strike becoming an inadvertent head shot KO.

But if you’ve done a serious breakdown I’ll defer to you. I was just quipping based on seeing just the sequence that it seemed flukish.

hmmm..yeah, it´s in that Decons. Meanwhile, the technical sequence is kindah tricky tbh: from Mousasi´stance [hands & position of the right foot], Im not sure that he was really goin´ for a legit level change....

Really?? What about when he jabbed Koschek a million times and broke his orbital? If you recall at that time Koschek was knocking people out left and right. Lame thread...
