Multiplat The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered Discussion

That was my thoughts exactly. It was a true marvel that really created 3D open world games in a way that hadn’t been done. But like a lot of things that were firsts, people got a lot better at making them with time.

Some things I remember not caring for about the game at the time. I hated the 27 different races. Every town felt like a big cartoony hodgepodge of whacky people to me. The roleplaying elements of the game were barebones at best. IMO, it was kind of responsible for killing RPGs for a while with much more advanced RP options that were prevalent before it. And of course there was a lot of goofy jank and bugs.

I think this one might be better served staying as a fond memory. But I’m also kind of bored after finishing Kingdom Come 2, so maybe I’ll check it out

KCD2 is probably the worst possible game to play immediately before this as it will so clearly illustrate just how far this genre has come.

I played about a third of the way through the game for the first time ever a couple years ago and stopped cause I couldn't stand the graphics. So this basically will be new to me. Best part is, I don't even have to buy the game.

it's been like 18 years since i last played it that i don't really even remember much of it. it feels like a new game to me lol.

i am going to join the dark brotherhood by murdering the adoring fan and sending him over dive rock. and he will respawn in 3 in game days so my conscience will be cleared.

For a shadow drop Tuesday, and Gamepass release, the stats are pretty damn impressive.

It actually surpassed 180k concurrent users.

This makes me more excited for the also leaked Fallout 3 remaster and due to the popularity, potentially Morrowind and New Vegas.

Bethesda has a great partner with Virtuos games, these guys are great their craft and will make them some easy $$.

I'm enjoying this tho honestly when I first played this very long time ago I ended up quitting it. Probably only out few hours just didn't vibe with me for some reason. Also this was one first games I legit stole from Walmart 🤷‍♂️

This is a lame cash grab and I'm going to feel filthy for spending the better part of 100 dollars on it and enjoying it.
I'm just playing on Gamepass which I got free for a year with my internet subscription, I think Gamepass is worth it anyway for these day one releases though.

well, it didn't take long to encounter my first glitch. only the shadows of my sword and shield are appearing. it's starting to become noticeably annoying.

if this is the worst i have to deal with in a bugthesda game then i guess i needn't complain.

okay i restarted the game and now i get no character shadows at all in first person. in third person the shadows are fine though. weird. trying to google a solution for this is a nightmare because of all the gazillion articles about the oblivion remaster being shadow launched.

Tho as much as I'm enjoying this as soon as expedition 33 comes out going this going in the backlog unless i decide to juggle both games.

Yes I have horse armour, I know I'm terrible lol.

Heyyy I remember horse armor and the uproar it caused.

I feel like it was a gateway drug for developers, because at the time, selling DLC that only served cosmetic purposes was not common. All these years later, there are so many more micro transactions that are so so much worse.

Just look at mobile and "free to play" games.
I find it funny at how universally rejected it was at the time, with gamers basically turning it into a meme, only for cosmetics to become this multi-billion dollar cash cow. Wouldn't be surprised if studio heads have life sized gold statues of that horse armor in their offices to give them inspiration for their next great idea.

"Yo Tom, I just touched the horse armor and it gave me a vision. I don't know what it means, but in my vision I saw dollar signs dancing around these two words in big neon letters that said 'loot boxes'. Do you have any idea what it could mean?"

ive been having the game crash every time I make alchemy potions anyone else have that issue ? playing on xbox

I've read about some people having performance issues once they get out into the open world.

I'm playing Cloud Gaming streaming through Game Pass on my Xbox and it's playing absolutely fine.

You don't even have to go to mobile or free to play games. Call of Duty has skins that are over $20. And it is crazy how many players I see with these skins. Overwatch 1 was another case where a full price game made billions off of cosmetics. I'll never understand it.

trying to kill this guy in the paranoia quest by the stables and he keeps running away from me when i start beating him up but this time instead of running back towards town to get the guards he ran down a path towards a bandit camp and the bandits got hostile at him and they killed him right as i caught up to him. then i had to kill the bandits too.

i think i may have avoided the dark brotherhood summons for now because technically the bandits killed this poor guy and i just beat him up. i don't want to do that questline until later because there's quests that give leveled items. i'm holding off on all of those quests until i hit the proper levels otherwise i'll get legendary weapons and armor as rewards that may as well be made of iron and shit that would have otherwise been really good gear if i would have waited until i hit much higher levels to do the quest. which is really stupid but it is what it is.

Talos be praised!

If you're on Steam and really annoyed the game won't let you completely turn off ray tracing?

C:\Users\<USER>\Documents\My Games\Oblivion Remastered\Saved\Config\Windows

edit Engine.ini

At the bottom of it put:
[/Script/Engine.RendererSettings]
r.Lumen.DiffuseIndirect.Allow=0

[ConsoleVariables]
r.Lumen.DiffuseIndirect.Allow=0

That will completely turn off raytracing instead of just setting it to low and you'll see significant performance increases.

On GamePass you can find the file here: /Documents/My Games/Oblivion Remastered/Saved/Config/WinGDK/

^^^

that shit actually works. i found the heaviest spot in the outdoor world i coud where the framerate would tank way under the 90-100 fps i'm averaging outdoors and then i saved it. idles at 61-63 fps. then i closed and added the parameters and reloaded. instant gain of 9-12 fps. thats damn near almost a 20% performance increase on my old 11700k + 4070ti setup and it looks a little better with the lumen shit turned off anyways.

lumen on:

lumen off:

to make sure it's not just a fluke i then turned that shit back on and reloaded, was getting the same low 60-63 fps idling. put params back in and it runs at 71-74 fps.

turned lumen off again and found another spot that drives my framerate down to 70-72 idle. saved there. put params back in. now idles 85-87 fps. tested again with and without the lumens. same shit. those parameters i posted above work without a doubt in my mind and it gives a significant performance increase. on weaker rigs this could be a godsend just to get the game to run decently, because the game doesn't give you an option to actually disable this shit altogether.

In the groove now. There's nothing like peak Bethesda's gameplay loop. Don't know why they've shied away from it in recent efforts. This game tracks everything you do and allocates "experience" to it, that ultimately makes up your EXP points to spend when you officially level up. It's constantly giving you a reason to play. It's a near perfect system to keep you engaged, although, it can be exploited rather easily. I don't care, though. As long as you're not trying to beat the actual programming of the game(anyone remember the old "rubber band" trick?), it doesn't get any better if you just want to play the game as it was designed to be played.

Unfortunately, my beautiful #1 controller apparently has a very tiny issue with stick drift that only really affects this one game. I have to play it with one of my ghetto controllers with a busted left bumper. The wounded soldier is appreciated, though.

Fighter's Guild is joined. Quests stacking up. I'm in the zone.
