Nice. What kind of dragon? Did it get any attacks off? Get any treasure from it?
Just had another awesome session. Will post about it later. Was at two failed death saving throws.
If anyone is looking to join an online game, check out our DM at Start Playing. Search for Riko Miyoko. He just started a Lost Mines of Phandelver game and runs quite a few other campaigns. It's really easy to learn. 90% of the mechanics is rolling a d20 and hoping for the best. Try to learn the math on your character sheet, know that you are not at all limited in your options to what's on the character sheet, and don't be a dick to the DM or the other players.I got invited to a DnD game but I'm a total noob. Can I learn how to play as I go along or is it better to get a primer?
You can learn as you go honestly. Pick a simple class like fighter, ranger or paladin or something without a lot of spells to manage and it will be easier.I got invited to a DnD game but I'm a total noob. Can I learn how to play as I go along or is it better to get a primer?

I would say it would depend on the subclass, I've seen new people struggle with when sneak attack applies (though a ranged rogue using Steady Aim makes it pretty simple)Yep, spells get complicated.
A rouge isn't too hard either.
Sneak and stab

Yeah guess I didn't think about that, was more thinking the arch typical sneak, steal, lockpick.I would say it would depend on the subclass, I've seen new people struggle with when sneak attack applies (though a ranged rogue using Steady Aim makes it pretty simple)
My vote is definitely fighter, simplest features, usually the hardest to hit, so less likely to go down and need a new character too soon, and the subclasses offer a decent range of styles once you've picked up the basics. I still remember my dumb half-orc fighter becoming an eldritch knight because after two levels of watching the wizard work I wanted to try some spells
Or use DnDBeyond or a character app for your phone which does the math for you, once less thing to figure out
Using 5e? Another system might fit betteri finally started working on the outline for my first campaign as DM. going to be a 90s RetroFuturism/UsedFuture theme & setting in space. will be using the supplemental material from Dark Matter by Mage Hand Press as a guide, but the campaign story will be homebrewed
should be fun!
yeah, 5e. it’s the only way ik how to play. plus, the supplement i’m using is designed for 5eUsing 5e? Another system might fit better
Interesting. I wonder of WotC cares enough to get pissy over this. They had their own setting called Dark•Matter. It was last used in 2006 as a d20 Modern supplement, so it's been almost 20 years, but copyright doesn't just expire because you're not actively using it (that's trademarks, different thing).yeah, 5e. it’s the only way ik how to play. plus, the supplement i’m using is designed for 5e
