Social The Divided States of America - A discussion of the problems and potential solutions.

Another radical right wing poster saying people that don’t agree with them should be rounded up and thrown in prison. But it’s the left that has a rhetoric problem. It’s clear some people want to have a discussion to improve the situation and others do not.
Like running around calling people fascist and hitler for the last decade. Exactly.

The truth? Me included?
We have to stop thinking we are special or righteous in our ideals. Stop coagulating together with those with ideals we used to abhor. Eventually, there's going to have to be compromise.
You're trans? Congrats, someone is gonna dislike you. Arbitrarily hate you. Straight white male? Same. Successful black female? Same. Poor Jewish family? Free Palestine. People are varying degrees of stupid and brilliant, kind and mean, informed and ignorant. It's a synthesis.

If you really just step out of the echo chamber, and start discriminating the craziness, you start to realize just how fucking stupid everyone sounds. And, hey! There's money to be made on that. The disgusting thing is when a leftist/rightist thinks some corporation is behind your ideals. They don't call you a customer, they call you a 'strategy'. Come the fuck on. Target doesn't care about trans people. They just want to sell shit and not get sued. The ONLY ideal in the top rungs of society, the real shot callers, is the endless pursuit of money. When you get that big, what else is there to chase? We all get divided up, preyed upon, have algorithms targeting us. Every sense you have has been deconstructed and weaponized against you throughout modern history. They know all the buttons to push, all the words to say, all the images to show.

We are divided because we choose to be. Everyone knows the problem, recognizes it, but just plays along. There are awful people of all representation. It's not hard to figure out, really, it's just the dopamine doomscrolling outrage everyone is addicted to. Jump off it. Realize that you should protect the liberty of others, no matter their views or persuasion. Because, really, it's about who should come out with the best ideas to bring us together and help everyone. Not divide, play victim politics, anger fits. Stop treating people like they are above or below you. We are all in it together to figure out, not to delegate for someone else to. If you are getting your political agendas from people like Ben Shapiro, Gavin Newsome, Andrew Breitbart, Joe Rogan... well, that's on you for not being critical. These people only say things because ratings go up and money flows in. You think this should would continue if everyone was like, "Woah, wait a fucking minute. This is ALL bullshit."

Take it for what it is. It's just time open your horizons to things you aren't comfortable admitting and call what's crazy, crazy. On both sides. Trans people deserve acknowledgement and respect. White people shouldn't be judged on actions that aren't theirs. The majority of whites, believe it or not, AREN'T racist drooling, Tom Hanks type Republicans.

Stop thinking you are special. You live in a world that would eat us all alive if it could. We need each other.

Then reading you try to cite crime statistics without acknowledging the fact that major cities are no longer required to report them this skewing the stats makes me think...

...probably not interested in facts.

I'm very interested in facts. Feel free to post any you find. I'm aware of the gaps in reporting, especially in 2021-2022 during the transition to the NIBRS system. Everything I've read indicates that, even if you include the cities' last year of reporting, overall crime trend is still down significantly (we're talking 60%~) since the early 90s. That trend started in the early 90s and has continued since (even prior to NIBRS being phased in).

Furthermore, the Federal government never had a requirement in place for cities, or anywhere else, to report crime statistics. It has always been voluntary.

Are local and state agencies required by law to participate in NIBRS?

As is the case with the UCR Program in general, federal law does not mandate local and state participation in NIBRS. Local and state agency participation in NIBRS is voluntary. However, states and agencies may be required by state or local law to participate.

If you're aware of state-level requirement changes recently you're more than welcome to post them. I'd love to check it out.

The Maga cult doesn’t want to read into it bc the answer is painfully obvious when hate crime surged it was the second orange man entered politics using his own knowledge of democratic ways against actual freedoms he used against us and brainwashed the dumb .

there's the answer we all knew was coming. Orange-man-bad brainfart. Yes, the left is too brain rot to have this kind of talk.

Should I take your post, or the post of several members of "the right" in this thread to mean that the right "is too brain rot" to have this kind of talk, as well?

Or should you judge people as individuals and not as some nebulous collective?

Yep, the 1st amendment is pretty worthless when the left are murdering people to mass applause for sharing opinions they don't like, and your solution is to crush the 2nd amendment.
So because Kirk got assassinated, you want to eliminate the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, and 14th Amendments?

Anything else you want to eliminate on your way to an unfree society?

And what 2nd Amendment crushing are you referring to?
Just rich listening to the "freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences" and "build your own twitter if you want to speak" brigade suddenly pretend to care about free speech just because you repelled every normal person.
Deep breaths. One can condemn assassinations while believing freedom of speech doesn't meant freedom from criticism or other reactions.

The New York City and Los Angeles police departments are among the 40% of law enforcement agencies nationwide not sharing their 2021 crime data with the FBI.

“Crime is on a lot of people’s minds, and it’s unfortunate that in 2021 we don’t have good crime data from across the country,” said data reporter Weihua Li.
Not sharing data directly with the FBI doesn't mean they aren't reporting crime rates. Here's LASD, LAPD, and NYC.

Ranked voting/alternative voting method.

been saying it for ages but people have no idea how shit the American voting system is and how instrumental it's been In entrenching the two party system.

I would be for this but on the surface I would also be for additional solutions but I am not sure it would work. First idea is if you are running for public office there are no more political groups. No more labels of Republican, Democrat, etc. The idea being you actually have to run on your previous accomplishments, failures and your stances on things.

Second idea is contributions to campaigns can only be made by individuals up to a max amount. No groups, no PAC's , no businesses can make contributions to a political campaign.

Third idea, no political ads on any form of media. If people want to be elected get your ass out there and pound the pavement and get your word out.

People will never come together in this political landscape. It's fruitless to try and reason and logic our way into a cohesive group because the rich and powerful thrive in this 2 sided climate. They will keep making us argue about race, gender, right, left, abortion.. etc. and meanwhile the spending power will keep dissappearing from the middle and lower classes. The best recent chance we had was Occupy Wall street and that was artfully disbanded.

Race, gender, abortion etc. are all important topics but money is literally everyones tool to live. We are being drained of it at a slow steady pace and it's intentional. Doesn't matter who is currently in the lead, this won't change.

Oof, sharing your fantasies of raping elderly women is definitely something a totally sane straight guy would do. Nice save.

<Dany07>

Says one of sherdog's oldest members of the tranny cult.
You don’t deny…….lol.

There is no way to come together its too late for that.

For me, I stopped really caring about federal politics. It's an exercise in futility. I only care about voting in the state and local because those issues affect me way more. Otherwise I just do whatever I have to get ahead and pay the least amount of taxes as possible.

I don't argue with partisan hacks anymore
Local stuff is the one thing we've some say over. I actually really like voting on ballot initiatives, it feels very authentically directly democratic. Even just giving money to local organizations that help people (I do with some stuff abroad too) feels nice, as does union stuff within the work place, it feels meaningful over the slop at the national level even though I still pay attention to that too, at the cost of my sanity lol. Even just carrying a neighbor's groceries or closing their car door when they forget. I've been meaning to go to city council meetings just to see what it's like, see how things are decided that directly effect me, haven't gotten around to it yet though.

For me there is no coming to any type of agreement with people who believe men can be women, people should be given preferential treatment based on skin colour, and that there should be no borders or law and order. There is nothing left to discuss, the only solution that doesn't involve all out war is to draw a line down the middle of every divided nation and to let those who wish to preserve family, law, order, and western Christian values go to one side, and those who wish to undermine all that go to the other and start their own thing and let the chips fall where they may.

To the thread, hard to answer. I think it's a lot of chickens coming home to roost, so to speak. I think Capitalism is long in the tooth and the extremes are ultimately due to greed/class issues which underpin the entire system. I think it's time the system evolved into something more pro social, pro human, because as it is meow, it's based on utilizing people as resources to fuel capital and not on happiness and prosperity, every right/privilege we have has been earned in blood and struggle in some form or another. I just don't know how that happens at this point. We seem to have little say nationally so locally seems like the best bet for one's energy IMO. It feels like we're coming a part at the seems and I think the extreme politics we're seeing is the representation of that. I'm hoping we're at a "two steps back, three steps forward" moment as opposed to becoming a failed state. The myth of American exceptionalism and the American Dream are dying and frankly good riddance, we have to have a realistic view of ourselves and the challenges we face.

There's much more I could say but I'd have to gather my thoughts. There's the typical stuff, like money out of politics, reinstating old regulations, rank choice voting, etc, but Capital always breaks those chains and reverses those wins eventually, I think it's time for an evolution, something more enlightened. The infinite growth model is simply unsustainable, our entire system of governance is outdated. Trump just pressed the accelerator on an already deteriorating system and is showing its flaws and limitations, he's capitalized on people's legitimate grievances by introducing boogeymen for them to direct their ire at, unfortunately those boogeymen are human beings.

I don't really have answers beyond that overall hierarchy should be questioned and discarded if it's not valid and happiness and sustainability should be prioritized.

Exactly. Just gotta take care of ourselves and our families.
