The Democratic Party left me behind — and I'm not alone

Anyways, I agree with kpt that homophobia =/= opposition to gay marriage. However, I also acknowledge that outright homophobia is prevalent in the black community. But I would disagree that homophobia is the hallmark of the deplorable sect.

Me too. But if we're looking at a Venn of this I'm certain there would be a Helluva an overlap in those viewpoints. So absent more accuate data (unless you've got some?), it's a pretty damn good starting point to put us in the ballpark.

I don't think it's necessarily a hallmark. But she used it as an example of what makes one deplorable so I challenged it. I took her quote to mean that any one of those things lands you in the category, not that you had to be all of them.

I'm not denying there is a connection between hostility and disallowing of rights. I'm just pointing out that isn't the only possibility. There are plenty of religious folks that don't hate gays, per se, but don't want them to have the right to marry. I find that view to be terrible as well, but it doesn't have to be out of hate.

I don't think falling back on your religious views is a good reason to fight to keep gays from getting married.

In this conversation, what exactly does liking or disliking SSM and/or homosexuals entail? For me, it's just about them having equal rights and being free to be happy and productive. I don't like or dislike of anyone based on sexual preference. Do you mean that you find it gross? That's fine, it's your reaction, but it's not a good reason to govern one way or another.

That's fine. But as I say to Trotsky up above, it's as reliable of an indicator as any I could find data for. And I didn't really think my point couldn't be made without pinpointing it down to within +/- 3%.

Nice that we agree on leaving religion at the door when it comes to governance.

I don't exactly what it entails because Hilary didn't really specify. And since she probably didn't collect stats on hate crimes against gays (and break them down by political affiliation), I went off my best guess that she was referring to poll results on gay marriage. What do you think she was defining homophobia as and what data was she using to base any sort of comment on that insinuates that attitude is more prevalent in the other guy's supporters? Impossible to know at this point really.

What's important here is she cast aspersions on tens of millions of people with nothing of substance to back it up. Some will call that intuitive and support her. Some will not be happy that she's condemning the character of their friends an family members who they know to be Trump supporters. Bottom line, I don't see how it was either fair or smart to make such an inflammatory claim.

I never said this was the only or most important part of the "deplorables" paragraph.

I didn't mean to imply that you did. But I did take your post to mean that disliking gays was both horrific and awful, based on those words being used. Is that not correct?

The GOP made an excellent video using nothing but clips from Leftist hysteria, violence and mental illness. The length is only a little over a minute. It could have gone on for hours.

You have got to start somewhere. Trump, as degenerate as he is, is a pebble in the pond. Electing Crooked Hillary was only going to make things worse by her selling out the US to the highest bidder and catering to the whims and fads of hysterical and mentally ill lefties. The people elected the lesser of two evils.

Jesus, how fucking delusional could you possibly be?

There is not a single fucking way in which Hillary would "sell out" the US to the highest bidder more so than Trump has (and was clearly going to).

Trump has actively self-dealed with China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the UK - and I'm sure there are plenty of other countries who have benefited from Trump's corruptness. Moreover, Trump and the GOP have passed sweeping laws and policies to deregulate and empower multinational (read: foreign; also read: amoral) corporations to the detriment of American consumers, retirees, and citizens altogether. He appointed fucking oil executives to the Sec. of State and EPA positions. He appointed for-profit school magnates to the Dept. of Education. He deregulated the financial sector so Wall Street figures could contravene their fiduciary duties like they did pre-2008. He's gutted the CFPB so crooks can con people more easily. He appointed a NLRB board that has attacked workers' rights and a SC Justice who just killed public unions. He spiked the national deficit for the sole benefit of the ultra-rich.

Seriously, do you have any self-respect at all? Hillary Clinton wouldn't have done any of those things, all of which are pretty blatantly "selling to the highest bidder." And I challenge you to name one single instance in which Clinton would have been better for the profiteers, the buyers of influence, and the global oligarchic class than Trump.

I'm just so sick to death of all this identity politics that now I support the racist foxnews grandpa who spends half his time fighting the culture wars over twitter.

Did I mention how much I dislike identity politics?
There, there, political orphan.

i support 0 things the democrats stand for.

now i will dramatically claim that they abandoned me.

Democrats would be wise to stop brushing off all the people sharing stories like this. At a certain point I'd think (and hope) theyd say hey wait a minute.. maybe were doing something wrong?

Unless of course their goal is to just push everyone right and get a real nazi party started?
democrats are like that one person you know who doesnt get along with anyone and they arent bright enough to realize it is them, not everyone else in the world.

People can change their political views. Most people lean more right as they get older.
some liberals still don't understand that people voted for him as a fuck you to the establishment. They may not have even cared about a lot of the things he was talking about, they just wanted to send a message to the establishment. Plus they knew that with the balance of powers, nothing to crazy was going to get passed. Hell, he can't even get a wall built that already had partial funding from past presidencies.

This was suppose to be a one time fuck you to the establishment on both sides. They were suppose to be scared into getting their shit together. But it doesnt look like that happened and I'm also afraid it started American Idol Presidential edition. Where the dems now think, OHH God we have to run THE ROCK for president.

Both sides are the same dude. Just get over it. Voting R and Voting D is just the same side of the machine (So vote Republican!) /s

You can list all the differences you like, you will never get through to the 'a plague on all their houses both sides are the same' idiots.

What nonsense. "You're delusional because I made up this ridiculous narrative that Trump is Senator Palpatine and then made up all sort of shit about Trump selling the country. He also makes me mad because rich people have money."

lol at YOU asking if anyone has "self respect."

I am genuinely curious, to all the posters in this thread agreeing with this "the democrats left me behind" sentiment, what could the democrats do to bring you back into the fold?

@TidWell we didn't mean to treat you oh so bad.
We can do better. Would you kindly support us this time around in the midterm elections?

Sincerely,
Your friends at the DNC

If it means anything, my parents voter for Obama in 2008 and voted for Trump in 2016. And I voted for Sanders in the primary and Trump in the general. And all three of us are liberals who support things like universal healthcare.

Honest self reflection from Democrats? Surely you jest?!

- Universal Healthcare (You're not "free" if you're one medical bill away from bankruptcy)
- Be against all these pointless wars (We're still in Afghanistan 17 years later)
- Campaign finance reform (It shouldn't be about which candidate has the most money/is a bigger bitch to their donors).

Those are the main 3 that'd have the greatest impact for everyone in America, even rural, conservative folk.

The Trump admin is doing directly the opposite of all these things, did you really expect different electing someone form the Republican party?

Nope, I expected this. My vote for Trump was an anti-Hillary vote. I'm tired of being forced to vote for the lesser of two evils, as are many people. If the Dems want my vote then they have to earn it. They can't just get votes anymore by not being the Republicans.

This is hard to believe. You consider yourself a liberal and favor liberal policies, but Republicans have no obligation whatsoever to "earn your vote." They can do the exact opposite of what you say you want and get it, while Democrats can give you 90% of what you want and not get it. You can see why people would call bullshit on this kind of thing.

So you voted for the most evil choice instead of the lesser, brilliant!
