Shogun is a guy who has looked both significantly worse and significantly better than I thought he was.

Like I couldn't believe how he took apart Rampage but we also know Rampage was spotty about training. I didn't think Shogun would beat Liddell, much less KO him but that's what happened. I figured Machida would handle him easily too and we saw what happened.

Then to get dominated/subbed by Forrest, subbed by Chael, KO'ed by OSP and Anthony Smith, it's kinda leaves you scratching your head about how good he really was.

But yeah, Shogun prelims and some random shit wmma on the main is pathetic.
This shit doesn't happen in other sports. We don't stop F1 to watch shit women racing in the middle of the thing. Nor with football, basketball or any other big sports.

Very realistic that more people will watch his last fight for free on prelims than pay for a decent (but not spectacular) PPV.

Shogun was aiming to get back to a title shot. He was given Vera and a title shot if he beat him. Well until Dana decided to give Machida a shot at the title depending on who had the "better fight" that night. Pretty much a joke.

Yeah
I remember that night.
Machida made short work of Bader while Shogun actually had some scares against Vera.
You also made me remember Shogun sometimes had that issue: sometimes he would appear like a refreshed Champion (like in the James tehuna match) and sometimes he looked like he was there Just for a paycheck (like in the Sonnen match)
