The Crown's Matt Smith pressured to donate pay disparity to #TimesUp

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

If I was Matt Smith I'd tell these people to fuck right off and go drill themselves in their own asses.

According to this article:

A Care2 petition is calling on the 'Doctor Who' alum to take action after he was paid more for his role as Prince Philip than leading lady Claire Foy earned as Queen Elizabeth.

Days after news broke that The Crown star Claire Foy was paid less than male counterpart Matt Smith, a petition is calling on the latter to donate the extra salary he received for the Netflix drama to the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund.

At a March 13 conference in Israel, producers revealed that star Foy earned less than male co-star Smith for the first two seasons of the Netflix hit. Foy played Queen Elizabeth in the drama from showrunner Peter Morgan, Sony Pictures Television Studios and Left Bank, and she earned a Golden Globe, SAG Award and Emmy nomination, among other accolades, for the part. Smith came into The Crown — on which he played Prince Philip for two seasons — with considerably more experience after having spent three seasons starring as The Doctor on Doctor Who.

"Going forward, no one gets paid more than the Queen," Left Bank creative director and executive producer Suzanne Mackie said at the INTV Conference in Jerusalem. Mackie acknowledged that Smith's experience on Doctor Who fueled the salary disparity.

The Care2 Petition urges Netflix CEO Reed Hastings and Smith to "show that they stand with women and do the right thing," while asking the actor and streaming giant to donate the difference in Smith's pay to the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund.

The Crown drive — which was near 22,000 signatures of its goal of 25,000 — comes two months after a similar petition urged Mark Wahlberg to donate the $1.5 million more that he made during reshoots for All the Money in the World after news broke that his co-star, Michelle Williams, received a mere $1,000 for the same work. (Wahlberg and his agency, WME, would eventually donate $2 million to the Time's Up fund.)

Look, Claire Foy is excellent in her role and she anchors the show, but it's no surprise why Smith was offered the larger contract: People actually knew his name and he played the Doctor on the immensely popular Doctor Who for multiple seasons. It even says in the article that he came into The Crown with "considerably more experience." The simple fact of the matter is that no one knew who Claire Foy was before The Crown. It was her big break.

If you want to argue that now, after proving her worth, Claire should be making as much or even more than Matt Smith then I would actually agree. But to say that Smith should donate his money to some silly as #TimesUp bullshit because he was the more accomplished actor and had a competent agent is fucking retarded.

What's the argument for her getting paid just as much? Just because they are both actors on the same show doesn't mean they are doing the same exact work. Different roles and different drawing power provides different values for the show.

Well it's called The Crown because it's about Queen Elizabeth, and she plays Queen Elizabeth. She's the lead and he's a supporting character.

She is also excellent in the role.

Like I said in the OP, I can see why he was initially offered more money, because he was the more recognizable name. But she has now become a name in her own right after a couple of seasons--largely due to her work on the show--so it makes sense to me that she should now be matching his salary.

But to act like Matt Smith should give his money away because Claire didn't have the name value to negotiate a better deal is fucking stupid.

A. Dude has more experience and more name recognition so he can demand a bigger paycheck.
B. The agents negotiate salaries. It’s not his fault if his agent is better.
C. She agreed to work for her contracted amount and she wasn’t forced to do that.

why is this his problem, and not say Netflix's?

he cashes the checks, not issues them....

Drawing power is also a factor. I'm pretty sure we've all seen movies because of the supporting actor/actress and not so much because of the lead actor/actress

Well like I said, I understand why he was paid more than her initially.

But she's becoming a star in her own right, at this point. She's starring in Steven Soderbergh's new movie Unsane which is coming out in a couple of weeks and she also has been tapped to play the lead in the new Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie.

I'm just saying that it's time for her to renegotiate her contract.

your crusade against #metoo & #timesup is getting really boring at this point. what did women do to hurt you, @shadow_priest_x ?

<{chips}>

So does this mean every A list male actor has to work down in salary to random female actresses now?

I swear to god if he capitulates to this demand, I will forever disavow his ever being The Doctor.

Instead of berating Matt Smith, why don’t these people go after Claire Foy’s agent to get her better paid?

The thing is, Claire Foy was a nobody before the show started. It was this show that gave her a name and put a spotlight on her.

It would seem like, of all people, it would be actors who understand the importance of star power and how that translates into bigger paychecks.

Agreed, but she’s a somebody now. She needs to tell her agent to tell the show runners, “Fuck you. Pay me.”

An experienced actor with a recognizable name gets paid more than an unknown?!

OUTRAGEOUS!!!!

I hated Matt Smith as The Doctor.

I feel like I'm finally getting my revenge.

If I was Matt Smith....well... I would probably get in trouble with my response to this horseshit. But that's just me.

I rarely think that trolling people with dick pics is a proper solution to much of anything, but in this case it just might be something to consider.

Why does the 'times up' movement need money from male stars? Is the movement not mainly twitter campaigns, on-line petitions and giving statements to the media?

Why do they need to take money from actors to do this? What bank account does the money go into, and who controls it?

Why should someone hand over their money to a pressure group because their agent did a good job negotiating? Where did this massive sense of entitlement come from?

I will be most disappointed if this dude hands over his salary to these fucking idiots.

It boggles the mind.
