The Country Bumpkin Training Experience (MMA Conditioning)

6/21/08 saturday

I went to the Comp. Fight Team practice. I was supposed to be a sparring partner that rotates in so that the 2 guys that have fights scheduled will have a fresh guy every round. A even number of guys showed up so instead we all stayed in the whole time, and rotated partners.

We did:

2 min. round thai kickboxing(with takedowns)
2 min. round thai clinch(with takedowns)
2 min round Jits with Hits
2 min round Jits with hits(switch so the other guy is in guard)


we did this circuit 3 times with a new guy each time. no rest in between rounds. no rest in between circuits.

and then we did a bunch of other stuff, worked some de la riva guard stuff and whatnot.
 
6/23/08 monday

about 45 minutes of freeroll followed by about an hour and a half of standup clinch work involving:

head pressure & position
hand fighting
one handed clinch& dirty boxing
thai clinch
body lock
takedown
jumping guard

yup.
 
6/24/08 tuesday

pulled the ligament at the top of my right tricep. im icin it and smotherimg it in cryogel hopim ill be good to go tommorrow.(my coach gave me a tube, i guess our gym is sponsored by cryogel.. )

So basically today we did some freeroll to warm up, jumped rope, shadowboxed, shadowboxed with knees and kicks, did footwork and sprawl drills, did head movement and footwork drills, and then started doimg takedown vs. boxer drills (i hurt myself in my first round as the takedown guy.)


damn. injuries are ghey.
 
6/25/08 wednesday

did lower body and core stuff, then we did a bunch of different takedown drills. and worked some escapes from scarf hold. and then a bit of freeroll.
 
ive heard good things about cryogel. good luck with your injuries man.
 
Yeah the cryogel really helps. im usin it on all my aches and pains now, tis definately a godsend.
My tricep is actually feelin better now, not 100%, but almost. Luckily i am training to be a personal trainer/nutritionist right now and the section i was on that day was on taking care of and prevention of injuries. so i did my icing cycles with cryogel in between and it healed up with the quickness.
 
6/26/08 thursday

today was a strking day. we started off jumping rope and then some shadowboxing. then we got 5 lb. dumbbells and did some getups a quick combo. Then a medicine ball situp, getup, 4 hit combo on the thai bag. then a circuit of thai bag, knees on the teardrop bag, and shadowboxing with dumbbells. then some work on the focus mitts, then some kicks from being on the ground(on the thai bag) and then some parrying the jab and closing the distance to get a bodylock with a few different takedown variations, and then some live jab parrying and striking(with lead hand only)

ok. still friday. today was gi-jits day but it was hot as shit and i was the only one wearing my gi, so i ended up losing the top and throwing on my bruce lee shirt.

we did some freeroll to warm up, some neck exercises, a bunch of leg scissors, crunches, and other ab stuff, a bunch of hip flexibilty stuff, a bunch of leg strength stuff, and then we worked on armbars and omoplatas with no hands. did some blindfolded freeroll, some one handed freeroll, worked some sweeps from the opponent standing in guard, and some knee on belly stuff.

I think thats about it, but the tendon underneath my right knee is sore, i think i might have stretched it the other day when i started working rubber guard and going for a gogo during a freeroll. i dunno. but im icin it right now, and plan on hittin it up with some of that cryogel goodness in a bit.

Today was comp. team practice.

we did rounds of kickboxing, clinchwork, jits with hits. and then rounds of what the coach calls "fight gone bad" which is escaping mount, sidecontrol, and opponent standing over you. then we did some rounds of mma sparring.
 
6/30/08 monday

Today we started by doing a lot of warmup stuff, and then doing some basic jiu jitsu rolls(i.e. front rolls, side rolls, back rolls)
then we did alot of clinchwork and worked 3 basic takedowns, one was a body lock leg trip, not sure what its called. One was the *** double, and the other was a head and arm clinch throw. then we did some king of the mat for awhile.

today was also my first day with my new Hayabusa MMA gloves, which i have mixed feelings about thus far, but we'll see if they grow on me(hopefully) also today was my first day with my new mouthpiece from starsguards, and it was great, cant say enough good stuff about it.
 
7/01/08 tuesday

today we did a ton of core exercises, and then some non-telegraphic jab work. then we did a circuit with one station beingwith a partner holding the pad and then throw a 1-2 1-2, circle around to the other side, repeat. another station was the thai bag just throwing kicks. and another station was medicine ball situps on a swiss ball. after all this fun stuff i did some boxing sparring.

werd.


oh yeah, and i weighed 210.4 this morning.
 
7/2/08 wednesday

today we worked a bunch of sit up guard stuff. we worked the stand out, hip bump sweep, omoplata, and how to take the back. then we did some drills from situp guard, and i worked on my ezekiel choke. then we did king of the mat, where i got a good hiptoss, but lost at the end of the round. bah.
 
7/3/08 thursday.

today basically can suck a dick.

there was no organized practice, so i did a ton of sparring, got a really great workout, and then broke some toes on my right foot right at the end.

im 98% sure theyre broken. Hurts like a bitch when i walk. I cant even walk normal, i hafta like, gimp so that i dont touch the ground with my toes. actually, its not technically my toes, maybe it would be considered my foot, cuz the center of the pain is actually right at the base of my middle toe. whatever. This is bullshit.

7/4/08 friday.

wow. remember when i was complaining yesterday about my busted foot, and i thought that was bad? well today i ripped the AC joint in my right shoulder. and i mightvedone somedamage to the tendon in the front of my shoulder. im going to go see a specialist early next week to find out if i hafta have surgery or not. this is the biggest bullshit EVER. but se la vie.
