Those charges are total bullshit and demonstrate how americans are living in a police state.

First off I'm going to qualify what I'm going to say by stating that I'm not a Jon Jones fan. I used to be a huge fan of his and then he lost me as I'm a big believer in rewarding people who demonstrate good character and punishing people who have bad. I wasn't phased when haters started going off about Jones being fake - I've long ago recognized that there's too many retards in this world who will hate someone for the most stupid shit (how else can you explain all the GSP hate?) However, he lost me when he started cheating on his wife and family, and finally with the whole fleeing the scene of an accident thing.

That said - he's being set up by this cop here.

He's been cited for:

1. drag racing
2. having a modified exhaust
3. swerving between lanes
4. exhibitionist driving
5. covering license plate regi with decorative cover

First of all, please note that the cop did not cite Jones for speeding. Also note that the cop stated in the video that he "did not say you were speeding". Now, in order to be convicted of New Mexico statute Section 66-8-115: Racing on highways; the law doesn't state that the driver must be speeding...however, a quick google search shows that Broadway Boulevard, where Jones was pulled over, has speed limits up to 30mph and that cops regularly camp out with speed traps to catch drivers on that road.

So, the cop states that Jones was drag racing and "accelerated quickly" in the video, but also made a statement saying that he "did not say you were speeding" nor did he cite Jones for speeding. So...this cop is going to go to court and allege that Jones was drag racing his car at speeds that topped out at...29 mph?!?!?

So, realistically Jones, in the worst case scenario, was "drag racing" from 0-29mph over, maybe, 2 seconds and then necessarily stopped accelerating so that he didn't go over the speed limit?!?! (because you have to know that if Jones was speeding he would have cited him for that too). Give me a fucking break.

And this would necessarily mean that this cop somehow observed Jones "swerving between lanes" and demonstrating "exhibitionist driving"...all while going at 29mph or under. How the fuck does someone even "swerve" a car going at 29mph?!?! How does someone do "exhibitionist driving" at 29mph (unless its going backwards). This all reeks of bullshit. To be convicted of "Reckless Driving" in New Mexico he has to:

"66-8-113. Reckless driving.

A. Any person who drives any vehicle carelessly and heedlessly in willful or wanton disregard of the rights or safety of others and without due caution and circumspection and at a speed or in a manner so as to endanger or be likely to endanger any person or property is guilty of reckless driving."

The cop even said that the alleged opponent slowed down...so who was Jones endangering while travelling at 29mph?!?! Because he isn't going to catch up to someone travelling at 29mph when he was just at a standstill at a stoplight.

Then this cop cites Jones for having a modified muffler. What would motivate the officer to check Jones' muffler? Jones did state that he revved the engine for the fans at the side of the road - obviously when this cop realized that he was barking up the wrong tree (because he obviously pulled Jones over for the sound his car made - not because he observed Jones racing) he started banging Jones for anything he could find, and the first thing he did was check for the muffler because that clearly fooled him. And then he carried on with the nickle and diming by citing Jones for the license plate infraction.

And why would this cop do this? Because every traffic cop in Albuquerque would have a hard on for Jones after getting off the last incident scott free. You had better believe that every cop in that precinct knows who Jon Jones is and knows what car he drives and that as soon as they see his car they will do everything they can to take him down.

And you could tell this cop had it out for him from the start. He would ask Jones a question, and then when Jones started answering him he would cut him off and get abrupt with him. Classic passive aggressiveness and was certainly intended to incite Jones who would have obviously been pissed already.

This is complete and utter bullshit.

I'm going to have to cite you for reckless amount of words.

Jones is a devoted Christian, people dislike him for no reason.

I got a drag racing ticket when I was a teen in NY. I'll say I would've preferred the speeding ticket. There was no decrease in the violation even with going to court and I lost my license for 3 months. So if the laws are similar basically the speeding ticket doesn't really matter once the racing ticket has been written, things could be different now though.

It's adorable when random sherdog posters think they're lawyers.

In order to cite someone for speeding, you need evidence they were speeding. If the cop was not using radar and did not have a chance to pace him, he cant prove he was speeding. The other behavior is citeable based on observation.

Plus, it sounds like Jon failed the attitude test... so he's being treated like every other asshole that thinks its ok to mouth off to a cop and I see no problem with that.

Meeting their quota, just like Jon said. That's how you have it in the US. It's over the top and unfair.

Reading a statute isn't "thinking" youre a lawyer. Maybe if all Americans took the time to do the tiniest bit of legal research police wouldn't feel they can get away with anything, and city traffic court's wouldn't just be a money mill.

If the local pigs want $200 out of my for a speeding ticket, they are going to be spending a minimum of $1000 in time

Hes lucky he didn't get arrested the way he was talking to the cop. Any other time that driver goes to jail.

As an actual lawyer, I'll just let you guys go ahead and talk conspiracy theory and racial injustice and how you think you know how it all works.

Another lawyer wannabe who defends Jon Jones.

Instead of writing all that shit go and tell your boy to go and learn how to properly drive.

What surprises me is when those who are looking for trouble, find it and then act shocked when it happens.

How does this guy not recognize the situation he is in? He has a track record of driving incidents and the entire police force is most likely not looking to cut him any slack, even though there was one cop that just gave him a break for driving 75mph in a 35mph zone (which probably further incited the by-the-book cops).

So, you have a few choices that make sense...1) hire a full-time driver and take your modded cars to the track to race, or 2) make friends with the top cop by making a huge donation to their retirement fund and/or make a huge donation to the mayors' re-election campaign and then you won't have to deal with all the junior staffers on the force. You pay for the special privileges you think you are entitled to. Either way, you have to play the game. If you don't, the game is going to continue to play you.

Instead, he just continues the same behavior that hasn't worked out well for him in the past, thinking that it will lead to a different outcome. That's the definition of insanity.

Oh lord. Where did anyone mention racial injustice?

You have disqualified yourself from this conversation.

How in the world does Bones still have a drivers license? Like I said before, Jones is a real life GTA character come to life. RockStar Games might as well just include in Bones in GTA 6.
