Throwback The controversial ending between Merab Dvalishvili and Ricky Simon

Can any Merab fan (or those who claim he was awake) explain what was the whole leg kicking thing? Seriously asking, thats not a defense thechnique afaik, and even when the bell rangs and Simon let go he still keeps kicking for a few seconds.

He looks gone for a few seconds, still on his bike, didnt went limp but was he fully awake when the round ended? Not a chance.

Since when does 60% out count as a TKO? You either go limp and you’re out, or you don’t.

He responded immediately after the bell when Simon said “he’s out”.

If the doctors let him, he would have got up on his own and returned to his corner.

There are numerous cases of fighters laying on the ground in exhaustion after the final bell. That doesn’t mean that you award their opponent a TKO after the fact.

He likely was out there but he came too as soon as the ref checked to see if he was out. There's not really a point where the ref should have stopped the fight. Not a controversial ending.

Since when do unconscious people kick?

I find it weird when fights are called AFTER the fight. Like if ref needs time after the final bell to decide things are over, then it's too late.

Guy got fucked up because of the blood rushing back into his head after the bell rang. If you call a guy going out after the fight is over a loss, then yeah, I guess you can say he lost.
How can you lose a fight by KO after it has ended. It's over. They called the KO after the bell. During the bout no stoppage was called. It ends than they decide a post fight KO.

Dead people can move, let alone unconscious ones.
Brendan Schaub also bicycling comes to mind.

lmao for 40 straight seconds? You're delusional my guy. That's not how the human body works. There is definitely an argument for him being out at :44 when he stops moving his legs. But then a couple seconds later when the ref comes into check he starts kicking again. If you think an unconscious person can go unconscious, cease moving and then start kicking their legs for 40 seconds you're a fucking retard.

Yep, good eye - he’s completely limp with both arms out-stretched after the TD, looks like he spiked himself out cold then woke up in the choke and got choked out repeatedly.

Look at 23 seconds left in the round both of his arms are completely out-stretched semi-limp not fighting hands or anything, Merab is just an animal that even when KO’d/choked out has an auto-reflex ability to have his body keep fighting like a decapitated snake.
Well said!

I listened to JRE a while and they were talking about this fight ans what happened in the end. It was pretty much the usual ”was he out? He’s kicking his feet around and fighting the chone! He looks out now. Wait, is he giving a thumbs up?” Etc.

Then Rogan goes ”I’m not sure he’s out.. look, he’s breathing!”

<{Joewithit}>

Like, bro, what the fuck?! He should be breathing! That’s built-in automated! They should be very fcking worried if he wasn’t breathing lol. How does a BJJ black belt with decades and decades of combat experience just blurt something like that out?

You can chop a chicken´s head and the body will still walk...Holly Holm threw punches after Tate choked her and she was unconscious...so, why does he keeps kicking after the choke has been released and the bell rang? No need for more of that "defense".

"immediately" is a stretch, that sequence happened a few seconds AFTER the bell and choke was removed.

I mean technically if you are being choked that means by definition you can't breathe.

You could still be flailing your limbs though, people have seizures and stuff like that all the time while they are choking and their bodies react in different ways for a myriad of reasons.

There are a few moments throughout when it looked like he stopped breathing for short periods for sure and there is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that he was completely unconscious for a brief period after he spiked himself and got rolled into mount, he was limp with dead arms by both sides (unless he was practicing his "Michael Chisea" defense lol).

At 43 seconds it looks like he goes completely limp again for a couple seconds and then starts basically having a seizure when the ref checks his wrist. I also don't like how he reacted at the end of the fight, if he wasn't out he should've sat up immediately but he was completely blank-staring into space flat on his back for a full 2 seconds.

Also the doctor stopped him from standing but he was on his knees, she didn't make him fall over flat on his back and stay there for another few seconds, so he could barely even stay on his knees for a second because he was still so light-headed from getting choked for so long and trying to get up.

Yeah he even kicks left leg twice more weakly while staring into the abyss arms limp by his side and Simon is standing over him pointing at his face to the ref.

I think the initial takedown was when he was truly out. At the end of the fight he was at least somewhat there and he interected with the ref almost immediately. Calling it anything other than a submission if you let it go on after that is really puzzling.
