Have any of you guys seen this? It's about an alternate history in which the Confederates won the American Civil War, establishing a new Confederate States of America that incorporates the entire former continental United States of America, the golden circle, and Caribbeans. The film primarily details significant political and cultural events of Confederate history from its founding until the early 2000s

It got me thinking of what the state of America would be like if the South would have won the war. I think the Civil Rights movement would have still happened (Only in a more intense fashion) and slavery would have still eventually been abolished, but this film definitely is an interesting take on an alternate history.

The mock commercials that take place in the film use some actual names of real products that were racist in nature.

It used to be on Netflix (and I'm not sure if it still is or not) but the whole thing is on Youtube if anybody is interested in watching it.

There's a great alternative history book by Harry Turtledove called Guns of the South in which the south wins that's really well written.

The Cherokee and Choctaw would have been so intermixed with the whites they would have long been bred out.

I cannot contribute much to the topic but I just wanna drop that I love alternate history discussions and would not mind having them regularly here.

Slavery would likely have lasted into the late 1800s or even early 1900s. Jim Crow would have lasted into the 90s like South Africa.

Things would be worse, obviously, but not terribly different than today. If the South has maintained a lot of its culture despite losing, the North would have done the same.

There is a chance the Indian wars would not have been near the same. The South may have treated the slaves bad but got along with the Natives much better than the north did.

The Cherokee and Choctaw had cotton plantations, lived in nice homes, and yes they had slaves. The North punished the Cherokee pretty bad for being Confederate as well as being slave owners.

Guns of the south isn't exactly an alternate history book. It involves white supremacists time travelling and giving the south ak-47's to defeat the north.

Now harry Turtledove does have an entire alternate series referred to as his world war series which tell the tale of the south winning the civil war and there being a USA and CSA and how they interact from that time up until the end of the second world war.

The US and germany are allies while the UK, france, and CSA are allies.

Harry turtledove was one of my favorite authors mainly due to his historical fiction. I own most of his work, except the fantasy shit about dragons or whatever.

If the South had won, there wouldn't be 50 states in America.
Westward expansion was a Union agenda along with Lincoln's railroad plan.
The United States would've become a 40 states country.

In harry turtledoves series, the south annexes parts of mexico and eventually the rest of central america and the carribean islands.

The United states, becomes a really close ally to the empire of germany and maintains an imperial outlook. After what would be (ww1) in our timeframe I believe they eventually annex canada from Great Britain and have colonies throughout the world.

Slavery is abolished in the south and its replaced by migrant labor from the south america. It's been 10+ years since I picked up that series, have the final 3 novels in 1st edition hardback but i just dont see myself reading 9 novels again when i still remember enough. Turtledove gets a little dry some time.

I'm sure theres a good breakdown somewhere on the net but thats what I remember.

If the South had won Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America would all be states.

Haven't read the book, but from what I remember of the synopsis it was South African Afrikaners who time traveled to give Lee the weapons.

He also wrote a series about reptilian aliens invading the planet during Ww2. Theres a follow-up series where the usa, the empire of japan, britain, nazi germany, and the ussr all co-exist with the reptilians controlling the southern hemisphere into the 1960s and 1970s. I read all 7 books.

Yep. The surrender of Lincoln was very well written.

I didn't know any of this literature existed. I'll have to look into it. I've been doing a lot of civil war research lately. I was having this discussion with my father in law last week about how things would be if the confederacy won.

Interesting stuff.

This might be a good place to start. Or you could go straight for the rabbit hole.

The most common alt histories are: The Nazis won, The Confederacy won and the Roman Empire never fell.
