Media The coldest KO ever by Beneil Dariush!

Barbosa wasn't 16-11 at the time though, and Barbosa has sent many to bed.

Serra was quite possibly the biggest upset in MMA history, which means nobody gave him a chance let alone KOing GSP.
it’s the biggest upset of all time, and for good reason. matt serra is still a better fighter than drakkar klose, so it’s a pointless comparison.

Its not a bad comparison because Dariush is levels below GSP, and Klose is levels below Serra....

Cerrone was absolutely an elite fighter in the UFC and for a period of his UFC run, that's not really up for a debate. He was a legitimate top 5/10 guy for years and always on the precipice of title contention. Consistency over time at an elite level is what makes a fighter elite, Beneil going 16-4-1 over 21 fights in the UFC, being on a current 8 fight win streak, having 4 top 10 wins and 4 or 5 more top 15 wins is absolutely an elite fighter. I shouldn't need to add more context, it's fairly obvious and your comparisons suck.
lmao donald cerrone was not elite, man. poirier is elite. oliveira is elite. cerrone was never on that level.

I agree they should have given it to Dariush rather than had him fight Oliveira, makes me inclined to think they will try to slide Poirier in there in October for the Abu Dhabi card or maybe Conor/Chandler winner but I hope I'm wrong. If Beneil wins in May, October is a perfectly fine turn around time. Could also be that IF Beneil loses, they'll have Poirier, Gaethje or someone else to slot in rather than a stale Oliveira vs Islam rematch. I think Beneil beats Charles but you never know, if Beneils smart he will wrestle...Dude has super good wrestling that doesn't get talked about enough and from top is a better grappler than Oliveira. I favor Beneil but it’s close.
i think it’s good he’s fighting oliveira. i had zero interest in seeing dariush fight for the title. if he gets past oliveira, he’s definitely earned it.

Yeah Cody Garbrant does the same thing. Not sure it's a reliable strategy IMO.
It depends on the fighter using that strategy. It works for certain fighters. Like Gaethje, it works for his fighting style to fight like that as well.

I agree that he has a better chance then Charles against Islam due to his better anti grappling and that Charles only got taken down while initiating the grappling in round 1 while in round 2 Islam failed to take him down while having him on the fence. I think he'll keep it on the feet against Islam who although was countering Volk he did panic whenever Volk blitzed in as he is not as good defensively in the pocket and yeah if Volk can rock him badly then Beneil can def put him out. Shoulda done that fight instead of the Charles fight its very intriguing but unfortunately I don't think he beats Charles

Oliveira's anti grappling isn't really anti grappling, its avoiding the stand up to not get hurt further and those who followed him down actually hurt him again. Just that Dustin, justin and Chandler didn't want to follow. Would have probably proven better for them to pressure when he was recovering.

very fun fight but elite fighters don’t go life and death with drakkar klose

Agree, and his fight with CDF was no wipeout either. He’s looked significantly improved since then. Wouldn’t surprise me if he goes 1-3 in his next four or anything but he deserves a shot at the top.

Charles has been dropped in four fights in a row. He doesn’t really move his head. BD is too good to get choked or dominated in the first scramble like DP and JG did, so my best guess is that this turns into a crazy brawl and one of them is TKO’d in the first two rounds. Wildcard is if BD decides he’s comfortable in CO’s guard and takes him down. Both would be fun to see.

you are adding extra context after the fact. don’t blame me because you didn’t say that the first time. regardless, donald cerrone had that exact record after beating alex oliveira. was he an ELITE fighter?

i’m dying on no hill. just simply saying dariush is not ELITE.

e·lite
/iˈlēt,āˈlēt/
noun
  1. 1.
a select group that is superior in terms of ability or qualities to the rest of a group or society.
How could you think a guy ranked top 5 who would be favored over almost any fighter in the world aside from the champ isn't elite?
I think the argument here is more based on the way you use the word elite more than anything else.

he mentioned matt serra who was at least a top ten ranked LW for a good portion of the early 2000’s. drakkar klose has never even come close to that, pun intended.

16-11 ufc record barboza made prime dariush look like an amateur.

Beneil is a lot easier to hit than Islam. If you look at both of them when they fought Dober Islam pretty much ran circles around him whereas Beneil was getting constantly tagged.

You didn't watch the fight?

The first round is complete domination by Dariush, he secures the take down and then back mount immediately and Klose never escapes, just survives.

Klose then gets knocked out dead a minute into the second round.

Dariush probably didn't need to take that many punches in the opening sequence of the second round, but he out skilled Klose literally everywhere this short fight went.
