Media The coldest KO ever by Beneil Dariush!

I agree they should have given it to Dariush rather than had him fight Oliveira, makes me inclined to think they will try to slide Poirier in there in October for the Abu Dhabi card or maybe Conor/Chandler winner but I hope I'm wrong. If Beneil wins in May, October is a perfectly fine turn around time. Could also be that IF Beneil loses, they'll have Poirier, Gaethje or someone else to slot in rather than a stale Oliveira vs Islam rematch. I think Beneil beats Charles but you never know, if Beneils smart he will wrestle...Dude has super good wrestling that doesn't get talked about enough and from top is a better grappler than Oliveira. I favor Beneil but its close.

Dam Dustin vs Islam? What an intriguing matchup....

They don't get caught by Matt Serra or Adriano Martins either. Kind of a stupid comment, Dariush's UFC career is the epitome of elite, he's had 21 fights in the UFC and he went 16-4-1, among them he has 4 top 10 wins at a minimum but it definitely could be more, currently on a 8 fight win streak. Literally the epitome of an elite fighter.
4 top ten wins is the epitome of elite?

<Varys01>

you gonna stand behind that?

Going 16-4-1 in the UFC over 21 fights, having 4 or more top 10 wins among them and being on an 8 fight win streak is absolutely elite, yes. Don't take one thing said out of context to make your point look less silly. Also Beneil was the first and only man to beat Rashid Magomedov in the UFC, back when Rashid was coming off the Burns win, former M-1 champ and 19-1 (3-0 UFC). I'm not sure what hill you're trying to die on here but it's okay, we say dumb things sometimes.

not by drakkar klose lol

i can see the argument that Dariush gets too sloppy on the feet at times. like in that timestamped exchange he throws left uppercut with nothing in front of it, and then throws an overhand left, and a right knee. that is not good striking there and he's lucky Klose didn't counter the left uppercut with a flurry because he for sure would've connected big there, but every fighter has something they're not good at, and in the end he came out on top big.

you are adding extra context after the fact. don’t blame me because you didn’t say that the first time. regardless, donald cerrone had that exact record after beating alex oliveira. was he an ELITE fighter?

i’m dying on no hill. just simply saying dariush is not ELITE.

Beneil is so damn rear hand reliant, it's why he's so open to getting hit all the time and he doesn't put his strikes together as you said. Very little action off his lead hand and isn't threatening. He's got a big left hand and a cannon of a left leg. He does punch himself into distance and take risks though, he's good just about everywhere else though...Strong clinch striker, great wrestling from the fence, great takedown defense, fantastic grappling everywhere, big power, great in a scramble, can fight at a frenetic pace or a slow one well, strong off his back, good top control, pressures well, will slow down in hard fought battles but tends to have better cardio than average. His striking is just pretty limited and he's defensively open. It's weird too because his gym is a phenomenal striking gym, I'm sure Cordeiro trains him well.

@HuskySamoan named a few times it has happened to elite guys.
It does happen, even if we think it shouldn't sir.
he mentioned matt serra who was at least a top ten ranked LW for a good portion of the early 2000’s. drakkar klose has never even come close to that, pun intended.

16-11 ufc record barboza made prime dariush look like an amateur.

Cerrone was absolutely an elite fighter in the UFC and for a period of his UFC run, that's not really up for a debate. He was a legitimate top 5/10 guy for years and always on the precipice of title contention. Consistency over time at an elite level is what makes a fighter elite, Beneil going 16-4-1 over 21 fights in the UFC, being on a current 8 fight win streak, having 4 top 10 wins and 4 or 5 more top 15 wins is absolutely an elite fighter. I shouldn't need to add more context, it's fairly obvious and your comparisons suck.

Barbosa wasn't 16-11 at the time though, and Barbosa has sent many to bed.

Serra was quite possibly the biggest upset in MMA history, which means nobody gave him a chance let alone KOing GSP.

where there you go. making it to the top 10 is world class in my opinion. like i said though, in context. so in 2018 he was world class.
so world class compared to everyone in the division? sure. i wouldn’t disagree. feels like a moot point though. i consider elite fighters to be long-standing perennial top 5 ranked fighters
