I don't see any threads on the main event, shows how much interest there is for it. I think it is a lot more interesting than people are giving it credit for based on two reasons: 1) Pennington has a great chin and 2) Nunes has had cardio issues in the past, in every fight except the last one. The big question is did the last fight with Shevchenko show her fixing her cardio entirely or was that a one-off performance based on neither fighter pressing the action? Your thoughts? Imo Pennington has to make it a dogfight to win. She's not as skilled a striker so she has to press the action, make Nunes work and get her tired. If she does that, she can finish the fight.

If Valentina would've pressed the action more in that last fight, she could've easily beat Nunes with Cardio alone.

Exactly. I wouldn't use that fight to say that Nunes fixed her cardio issue. Her cardio was never tested in that fight.

I love this fight! Cardio in many instances is energy management and efficiancy. Nunes has improoved in both eras, and mabey also her vo2 also has improoved. I wonder how RPs jab wil play a role in this fight and how much she has improoved since the last time we saw her. This can be a really good fight.

Agree it's an interesting fight. Pennington's known for her aggressive style so this shouldn't be dull like Nunes - Shevchenko II, where Valentina was primarily counter striking. Pennington's good at pummeling & brawling & having great cardio. Not particularly known for finishes, so maybe her plan's to take it to later rounds and make Nunes feel the cardio burn. Nunes would like a finish in this one, she & her trainer mentioned it. How might Pennington respond to heavy pressure from Nunes in the first three rounds?

I still think Nunes is more talented in most areas and has improved her cardio. But one never knows going into any fight how it might play out. That's what makes it fun watching. So yeah, I'm excited for it.

Possibly. But she didn't so we'll never know.

Yeah Pennington isn't a finisher but if Nunes gasses she should be relatively easy to finish, since its a 5 round fight.

True. Makes this one interesting. If it goes the distance, Nunes' cardio should definitely be more tested by Rocky.

Yeah, that should be Pennington's goal. Whether she can accomplish it is another story. Can't recall the last time Nunes was finished. She's been on a tear at least since Pennington last fought. Fun fact: Rocky last fought 18 months ago, on the same card Conor last fought.

That second sentence I'm going to think about as I've been working on cardio. Energy management and efficiency. Just writing it over as I was thinking about it last night while running.

Yeah, I'd guess Nunes' cardio has somewhat improved and now we get to see how Rocky's jab has improved. Even though Rocky hasn't been in as heavy training, she's still gotten involved in helping train Torres (who has improved a lot). So I'm really hoping to see the best version of Pennington.

Enjoy the fight!

She was finished 3 and a half years ago by Cat. Since then, she's only seen the second round twice, both times against Shevchenko. The first time she fought hard and gassed badly in the third round. In the second fight she fought much more conservatively and didn't gas. Rocky has to make her fight hard.

Wmma should never be a headliner on a ufc ppv card and expect to sell high numbers.

Pennington wrestles when she should box, boxes when she should grapple, lets off when she shouldn't,doesn't go when she should...she has horrible fight IQ so I can't put any stock into her fighting the right fight, hopefully she does. She generally lets her opponent dictate where the fight goes and just fights them there.Still shocked Shevchenko fought such a stupid fight.

Well, question answered. I'll never doubt her cardio again. Props to the chin of Pennington, Nunes was throwing heavy at her the entire fight and never rocked her. She needs a fight psychologist to make her let her hands go, was super tentative from the outset. With some higher fight IQ she could be one of the top fighters.

She has improved her cardio. There's nobody left for her to fight except Cyborg and I doubt she will accept. There's nobody for Cyborg to fight either. These women divisions are fucking shallow

Nobody is pushing her enough. Everybody is letting her dictate the pace. When she fights a pressure fighter her cardio will fall apart. Question is if there is a girl like that in that shit division.

For the sake of wmma the UFC needs to make this fight. Stop being cheap bastards and pay them to fight.

Nunes most definitely fixed her cardio issues, maybe Conor should look into what Nunes is doing.

Was suprised at her volume. However, rocky didn’t really mount any real offense to be honest. Conor could go do that for 5 rounds if his opponent just stands by the cage and throws 1-2 sloppy combinations.

The Nate fights prove otherwise.
