The belt doesn't really mean much anymore in most cases

Colby is getting a title shot off beating Jorge, when Belal, Khamzat, and Shavkat are the real contenders. Colby is just being brought in for name recognition, shit talking and hype and the casuals will eat it up. It a shame that its becoming more and more of the norm.

They had Poatan run away from 185 to save Izzy's star power, only for it to backfire against them when Sean beat Izzy.

Jones only went up to HW after Ngannou left for more money.

I would bet on Sean O'Malley to lose against Merab, Cory, Chito, Yadong, Umar. Bellators Patchy Mix probably beats him too. He just got shoved down our throats until he actually got a good win. His win over Aljo is legit, but most of his career is hot garbage can crushing. He lost to Yan without a doubt.

The UFC is doing really well financially, but right now it kind of sucks to be a fan above except for 145 and 155. The GSP and Silva era, and even the Fox era has been better than the ESPN/Endeavor era. There have always been questionable decision making when it comes to match making, but its so much more prevalent and obvious now.

I know we are amazed by Strickland beating Izzy, but in actuality, if this fight happened at the lower level and they didn't have names, the fight would have been horrible. We were only entertained because it wasn't likely to happen, but it wasn't like Sean had some revolutionary performance. It was a low volume fight without much action and most of the strikes missed.

The only guys who are really living up to being the best in the world are Volk and Islam. They are truly the #1 guys in their weight class( for the time being) who don't duck anyone or are given favorable match-ups. They are savages. Everyone else is a diva until proven otherwise.

Means a lot but not as much as before because of what you say and because UFC miss top talent much more than back in the day. There is strong competition offering fat checks.

It's a moment in an era where a lot of older fighters are retiring or on their way out, while the newer guys are just building their base.
Happens once a decade in this sport
In '07 Serra beat GSP, Jardine beat Chuck (not for the title, just sayin), Couture beat Sylvia and tried to leave the UFC to fight Fedor, and Sherk won the belt but hadn't fought BJ yet.

I think you're exactly right.

There is no integrity anymore. It's a popularity contest.

Pantoja / Moreno was probably the most real fight, between two A-class opponents, that we have seen an a long time.

Makhachev and Oliveira after that — but I think Pantoja / Moreno was a seriously hard fight.

Pereira / Adesanya was also A-class ... but then the UFC protected Adesanya, literally forcing Pereira to move — and then Adesanya fumbles the ball.

These highlights aside, the UFC is often a shit-show, rather than a proving ground.

I am fine with seeing Colby vs Leon, Khamzat has been away like Colby so you can make an argument for him too. But Jorge has beef which would be nice to see Leon settle that...Colby, Khamzat, and Jorge seem like the next three to pick. If I liked Leon I would pick Jorge, Colby, and Khamzat. If I dislike Leon, Khamzat, Colby, then Jorge. ...Colby and Khamzat would both be interesting.

Unfortunately ATM, that's just how it is.
What're you gonna do?

I don’t think ufc titles have meant much for a while. They are often given to guys coming off defeats and have even featured both guys coming off comprehensive defeats fighting for one.

you can’t make this kinda shit up

{<huh}

  • Islam got a title shot without a single top 5 win.
  • He then got to defend against a 145lber in their first 155lb fight.
  • Now he's rematching the guy he originally fought for the belt a year later.
Wtf are you talking about?
