I barely made it halfway through last night before crashing. Will finish it off later this week. Probably. Not horrible yet not overly impressed either. We’ll see

I do see some of the "woke" criticism people leveled against the film as well. Everyone white was bad.

Alfred is white, correct? And Bruce Wayne/Batman is also white? There's literally only 2 people of color in this movie, Selina Kyle/Cat Woman who's an antihero, and Jim Gordon.

It'd be different if you said something like, "yeah, that line from Selina Kyle about rich white dudes seemed out of pocket." But instead you had a problem with there being too many bad white people in a movie that is predominately casted with white people?

Ignore them. Some people just like to whine and complain

Sorry I guess I was not clear.

I see where people got that vibe from but it didn't stand out to me. It was one of the criticisms leveled at the movie but while I can see it, I don't feel it has a ton of merit.

I didn't feel the movie was "woke" or preachy, what stood out to me was the poor writing, drastically changed characters and absolutely trash fight scenes where bats is basically invincible until the plot needs a bit of drama and then he is "hurt."

Every one who waited to see it, doesn’t like it, interesting
Thats what i was thinking

I saw it on day one and left pretty disappointed. 5.5/10 was my score. Just too many stupid parts and shit that wasnt necessary. Some parts were very good, but not enough.

Still scratching my head, wondering how so many people loved this.

I think those who love films like Drive and Blade Runner 2049 would probably find the Batman more palatable. It is a slow burn of a film, with literally 3 action set pieces. I fear Reeves will have mandates to make the sequel more "fun" and action driven and that's going to fuck up something that could be truly special or even surpass the TDK trilogy.

he is a cop, so you know how he feels about people of color

You are on point

I agree.

I'm usually acutely aware of the "woke" crap, but I just don't see it here, and the casting doesn't feel forced.

The movie has problems, but other than one very short, throw-away line (that WAS clearly forced), I didn't see any agenda.

The writing could be better, but Zoe & Jeffery are great choices for their roles.

Edit: Forgot about the opening gang scene. That was definitely pandering and weak.

I watched half and I didn't like it so far. It's not horrible but to me it doesn't seem like a Batman movie, it seems like a detective movie. And I have a really hard time believing this guy is Batman. I've never seen him act before so he's brand new to me. Penguin is cool. I've liked all the other movies that Batman has been in.

Not really. I liked those movies(loved the BR sequel). The problem here isn't the slow pace. It's the writing. Let's not pretend that Nolan's flicks were known for their action, and everyone just wants a big stupid blockbuster like...BvS.

I wouldn't worry about Reeves getting controlled too much. The movie wasn't exactly a failure.

I know but I just wasn't sold on it. Like when he's afraid to jump off a building, come on I want a Batman like in the Arkham games not a new origin story

Him being a bit nervous didn't bother me. Him hitting that bridge at 300mph and barely getting a scratch on him, really took me out of the whole "realism" thing they were going for, though.

I think we have to make a clear distinction as to what "action" means. Because while Nolan's films lacked in the hand to hand combat, the dude still brought it with some top tier action set pieces in any comic book film.

As for mandates, it's still too soon to have an idea of where Reeves will want to go with the sequel, but I'd be shocked if WB didn't make him add some more big budget set designs; even if he wants to keep with the smaller scale/film noir style.

And yeah, BR sequel was the shit. I really want to watch that film again!

That's fair. I do believe Bruce will be more comfortable with simple things like jumping off rooftops come the sequel. This Batman is still far from polished.

Same here, I said no way he'd survive that or at least be significantly knocked out. I did like the eye contacts camera, that was cool.
