I really, really, really didn't enjoy the second half of this film. There was a huge tonal shift at the end as well that really bothered me and didn't meet the beginning, which was entirely derivative of both Zodiac and Seven, but much more inferior in atmosphere and acting.
There were numerous scenes that induced eye rolls from the predictable writing in journals; "Something in the Way" by Nirvana being used; the question mark in the cappuccino; how little the film cared for collateral damage and loss of life with the flooding or the explosions on the freeway.
Pattinson was so much better in both the Lighthouse and Good Time, doing nothing but brooding as Bruce Wayne, going almost full emo. As Batman his voice wasn't as over the top as Bale's and while the suit was awesome, the action was pretty weak. I get its basically year two and he's not nearly as advanced in combat but overall it was him being a brute and fell flat. Farrell as Penguin, Kravitz as Kyle and Dano were the only real, true saving graces of this film outside of the exceptional score.
The action was ham fisted and Batman being able to take full on shotgun blasts and bombs to the chest killed all the suspense in those encounters. Dude woke up right before they took off his mask and was able to shake off that bomb? I'm not 12. This isn't transformers.
I was incredibly disappointed.
5/10.
