Social The 'banning' of Nazi symbols in Germany and Confederate symbols in America

Smoking, drinking, all in a nazi costume. I don't even remember this so it couldn't have been that bad. If this was Trump or Obama's son, shit would hit the proverbial fan. Well, Obama's hypothetical son would probably have gotten off a little easier for being only a quarter white.

Do we not have issues in America with school curriculum that only wants to teach the 'evolution' of man over God's creation? An issue that has been taken up by parents, teachers, and the government.
Yeah, I can see that the bridge is out, I'm hopping off this train before it wrecks.

How about wave the actual American flag and not the flag of a bunch of losers lol
As much as this rustled me, there is truth to it. The Confederacy was a failed attempt to start a new nation. There is no reason for a government supported property to maintain anything Confederate outside of a museum.

However, if an individual wants to display anything Confederate, on their private property or in a public place, should be fully protected by the same laws that gives anyone a right to free speech.

I don’t agree with idiots vandalizing statues and whatnot. Technically, it’s vandalizing federal property and is punishable by law. Those laws should be enforced. There is a proper was to handle it.

There is nothing illegal or "banned" about the confederate flag.

It's just not something the government chooses to put on public property anymore.

100% agree.

After Linda Sarsour was trying promoting wearing a hijab as a sign of courage, Alishba wasn't having it. She made a good comparison.

For some the hijab has some meaning that isn't about tempting a man or to show a woman isn't a slave. And for some the Conderate flag doesn't represent the values of the south that allowed slavery and discrimination. But for many it does.

I don't know why the Southern pride people who don't advocate discrmination don't develop a different flag. Seems like a good way to go.

Yes, that was dumb but that was a costume party.
It seems to never go out of style:
Lemmy of Motorhead

Lady Gaga

Because the fire eaters in the South were itching to secede. The fear of Lincoln outlawing slavery was an irrational one that the pro secessionalusts perpetuated.

If you want proof of Lincoln’s views on the slave, I’ll fill this page up with his own quotes on the subject.

Feel free to spam all the Lincoln quotes you want. You answered my question to my satisfaction. Secession was a sham. A very costly one.

No it really wasn’t. It was expected by any state that felt it necessary. Lincoln even agreed with it until he became president.

The South didn’t ask for war, they just wanted out. The reason for the bloodshed was Lincoln not allowing them to go. Secession wasn’t an act of war.

The United States has now 'banned' the Confederate flag and Confederate statues after almost 150 years. Americans don't like to be reminded of slavery or the Ku Klux Klan. Germany has banned the Swastika and the SS symbol since the 1950s. They don't want to be reminded of Hitler, concentration camps, and WWII. Both countries accept the symbols in the contexts of art and sometimes teaching.

Like that part of history never happened. The new Politically Correct (PC) way of rewriting history. Take out anything offensive. How can anyone (young) truly come to their own opinion about an issue when history gets partly 'sterilized'? How to learn from the evils and mistakes of the past?

Hitler shouldn’t have killed all those Jews - obviously - that was the worst decision of all...but that history made for some crazy badass footage that will be around forever

Yes no country has ever considered trying to separate their territory in half as an act of war.

It was that bad. He got his ass drug to Auschwitz by his brother. He only rehabbed his image by joining the military and serving actual duty.

That's something leftists should really work on, instead of burning it.American flag of today is not the same as it was in 1865. Confederate flag and American flag is not mutually exclusive.

It rustles you because of the hypocritical source it originates from. This fool defends kneeling for a flag and burning them. In other words, he's full of shit.

It bothers me in no way that the country wanted to be divided. Feds were overstepping their authority. Revolution only happened 70 year prior....one generation. It was a new Republic, trying to sort itself out. If Israel was going to have a civil war and divide itself, I'd have no opinion on that either. New states are imperfect unions and may need to have that type of a moment.

Who said it was? I raise mine proudly.

The thought of banning symbols is just ridiculous. Complete disregard of first amendment rights, in America at least. Germany is just doing what Germany has been doing now for years.

But banning these symbols is not the answer. Trying to ignore these events does not make it like it never happened, and the best way to prevent something like this happening again is to recognize and condemn the symbols and what is behind them, outlawing them make just make them more attractive for those that want to go against the system.
