The Australians figured how to beat the Russian/American wrestlers

Why does Craig Jones get so much credit for coaching Volk to a clear loss?

Khabib and islam themselves are giving a lot of credit to volk's team for their prep and it's a part of why they're taking Jack so seriously, too. They've said as much. Loss or not, you can't really argue against the fact that Volk, a 5'5 145lber, was better prepared for Islam than anyone else (other than Martins I guess).

Threads like this are obviously playing it up to get under the skin of the dagestani fan boys, though.

Khamzat beat Whittaker, so I'm not sure this is true.

But I am interested to see how JDM does against Islam, because I think Volk was onto something with his strategy against Islam. He just didn't expect to get KO'd on the feet.

Izzy's wrestling coach is/ was a Romanian. Pretty much the same wretling school and infrastructure developed in the Soviets era.

Also Australians are importing a lot of Eastern European wrestling coaches.

What seperates Makhachev apart from the rest of the one dimensional Dagis is he’s the most complete, dangerous and unpredictable of all… KO power, submission artist and takedown threat where it’s either over or if you survive till r3, you get desperate later (see vs Porier) which gives him the edge…

Volk’s rematch showed us that Makhachev got better and forces you to think “i’m ready to defend takedowns” only to get KO’ed afterward all because you were only anticipating a takedown.

If aging Bilal took Jack down then…

Lot of this going around for the ruskies!

I'll keep it in point form

1. Bobby Knucles/izzy had solid TDD
2. Volk showed good TD against Islam, despite the 4th round body triangle he was caught in
3. JDM beat a strong wrestler in Belal and I favor him against Islam
4. And the legend himself...Craig Jones who will be JDM's coach

Without question Craig Jones has cracked the code. He will be the man to end the blight known as "smesh".

Jack doesn’t need to worry about those clumsy kicks, because he is out of his reach unlike Volk. Mofo ain’t head kicking anyone at 170.

In the first Volk vs Islam fight, Volk used both hands on one of Islam’s wrists any time Islam tried to take Volk down. It made it difficult for Islam to lock his hands. Simple wrist control. This was a big factor to defend takedowns and for Volk to get back to his feet, Islam was credited with 4 takedowns out of 9 attempts. Any time a high level Dagestani sambo wrestler gets less than 50% of his takedowns completed in a 5 rd decision that is usually a good thing for the other fighter. JDM isn’t nearly as quick as Volk, but his reach, strength, & power can cause problems for Islam if his takedown defense is on par with what Volk accomplished in his first fight with Islam.

I never thought we'd have an Aussie champ because i never thought our grappling would hold up. When Bobby got out of a bad ground position against Jacare and finished the business I started to think maybe maybe.

And I'm still not sure how Volk didn't get subbed against Islam, being in a body triangle for that long against a bigger dominant wrestler was amazing. Islam didn't even really seem to get close to a sub.

So Aussies can grapple apparently.
Islam def seemed awkward to shoot so low on a smaller guy. Volk super ready for those underhooks

Islam defeated Volk twice
Bobby Knuckles got cranked by Khamzat
JDM over Belal is a fine example -- I'll give you that one
