Baki is hilarious. It is just way over the top with everything. The author is a bit of a Japanese nationalist. I don't know how they are going to animate the next season. There is a bunch of female and male surprise sex scenes.
Baki translate very bad to anime, even if is well done
Author have just immense love for martial arts/fight sports/violence (even if feel is he did'nt done it himself) and whole manga is an endless but cool shower of anedoctes and concepts (most of wich fake, but still entertaining), and hyped up fights
He's able to create very deep and well defined "martial manga" characterst, probably the best i can remember... at character building can't think any better author in the genre
It's not perfect though, mostly 3 things cripple the series for me, otherwise would be legendary level stuff
- His absolute boner for Yujiro ruin everything, no villain can be developed properly
- Dude is a jap nationalist with huge hate/complex toward white americans and whites on general
- Dude is closet gay and fill the manga with super cringe gay shit that serve no purpose to the story, just express his sexual frustration
Beside that best martial manga by long margin
Kengan is fun, full of fights (fuckton of fights) and slighty less affected from flaws above, but feels like a cheap edgy teen shit compared to Baki... it does LOT of things better actually, but characters are nowhere as developed or memorable (and i like LOT of Kengan characters)
Ragnarok... idk to me does'nt even fall in same category, it's not a "pure" martial arts anime
Surprised by all the Ragnarok praise. I do love tournament stuff but I thought the anime was horrible and the background stories for every character I couldn't stand it.

I legit laughed when they revealed Biscuit's wife. It is the terrible stereotype of how black dudes like fat white women.

Ali Jr end up on jobber route when he was no more needed (as happen even to some japs), but he was portrayed as exceptional talented young fighter, both in chinese tournament and getting W vs Goki and Doppo, wich is HUGE for the series
I also think will return better than ever, he lost only to monsters and author on purpose mostly made it look like his biggest flaw was being not mature enough, wich is fair considering
Oliva was for kinda long period considered the #2 of Baki world, till old chinese master was shown and got one L with Baki
Only time got truly disprected was
vs sumo guy, but seems he's about to return the favor
The fat woman thing who cares, as childish it sounds in Baki world author give you respect in the form of be good at fight and Oliva has been for a long time one of the very very best, slowly sliding from #2 to losing some positions, but still top10 guy and likely top5 alive
Smokey Joe is not very top, but still was treated as a master on par with Retsu
If you seek a white character in very top fighters you will only find Jack, who as son of Yujiro is half japanese (the only reason he's good) and unlike his half brother Baki had literally to roid up almost to the death and get borderline sci-fi surgeries to play even with others
You will not find one single white guy anywhere close to the top or even being just relevant lol
Closest you will find are the convicts, who have been treated like a bunch of cheating cans
Dorian or Spec maybe had some more respect but still they've been just cannon fodder
The Karelin look alike (forgot his name) for a moment felt like big deal, but after losing to Jack was thrown in the trash can too

It’s so much better, imo. I lost respect for the creator of Baki for what he did to Muhammad Ali with his fictional son. Fuck em. At least Akira Toriyama is correcting his flaws by making Goten’s potentially romantic partner black and not draw her and other black characters in an offensive way.

I never got into Baki cause from some pages I've read and some anime clips, it just seems like mindless fighting. But after reading you guys previews, I might see it now cause it seems hilarious hahahah. Should I watch the anime or read manga?

What??? You think the author is racist because they didn't have a white character as #1 or #2 bad guy? This take is a bit odd. There were white villains. People who fight and then get written out as less important is the nature of that type of writing. A big bad comes and loses. He then jobs to other big bad and get a little respect with other wins. Olivia will become less relevant as the series progresses.

Baki is hilarious. The author is a nationalist but he also studied some sort of TMA Chinese Kenpo. Pretty much TMA wins and anything new or MMA loses. If you want a better story then read the manga but if you want just WTF moments then go with the anime.

Watch the 2001 anime too? Or should just start with the 2016? Does the anime have Ali Jr and his fat wife? That is the most hilarious part I wanna see.
