Oh shit, looks like Stags will become collectibles:

HARTFORD — The owner of a local gun manufacturer has pleaded guilty to violating federal firearms laws.

The president of Stag Arms, LLC, Mark Malkowski, 37, pleaded guilty to a federal firearms charge. Per a plea agreement, Malkowski has agreed to pay a $100,000 fine, while the company will pay a $500,000 fine. Stag Arms also has to forfeit its gun manufacturing license, and Malkowski agreed to get out of the gun business and never return in an ownership or management role.

In July of 2014, the ATF conducted a firearms compliance inspection of Stag’s two New Britain manufacturing facilities, including a building which houses gun-maker CMT. A 2007 inspection found record keeping violations which the company was warned to fix.

During the latest investigation, ATF investigators found that more than 3,000 gun receivers –the part of the gun that includes the trigger and firing mechanism–were not properly registered, violating the National Firearms Act. Federal agents also discovered a total of 62 fully automatic machine guns and machine gun receivers which were either registered somewhere else or not registered at all. Guns were also recovered which had serial numbers “obliterated,” meaning numbers were purposely erased.

Furthermore, federal prosecutors said Stag Arms could not account for 200 guns, meaning they are lost. The fear is the guns wound up on the streets and could potentially be used in a crime.

Stag Arms, LLC released the following statement:

“Stag Arms, LLC today announced that the company and its founder, Mark Malkowski, have reached a resolution with government officials stemming from an investigation that began last year relating primarily to the timing of recordkeeping during the manufacturing process and compliance with federal firearms manufacturing and registration requirements. Both Stag Arms and Mr. Malkowski cooperated fully with the government throughout the investigation. While both Stag Arms and Mr. Malkowski believe that public safety was never compromised, they have agreed to enter guilty pleas and to pay significant fines, because doing so is in the best interests of the company and its employees. Mr. Malkowski has also agreed to transition the business to new ownership and is in advanced talks with a potential buyer. Mr. Malkowski will continue as a marketing consultant to the business and the industry for a period of time following the sale. Stag Arms takes its obligations to comply with all laws and regulations very seriously and has made comprehensive changes to ensure that similar problems cannot happen again and that best compliance practices are maintained in all of its operations.”

It will be bought in short order, basically just the CEO got in trouble and agreed to never be involved with firearms again. In fact I think someone from within the company will buy.

I wouldn't waste money on a stag thinking it will appreciate

Stag must pay well. :)

The article said they're already in talks with someone. Freedom Group maybe?

Freedom would be a good way to run it to the ground

That's what I hear. Maybe it'll be all the employees. Like Budget Rent-A-Car or something. Maybe then I'd go back to supporting them (after they refused to ship legal products to my state). :(

Here's an interesting bit.

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/nation-world/national/article51118820.html

The records of thousands of people who were involuntarily committed for mental health treatment in Georgia have been removed from the national database that gun dealers use to run background checks of buyers.

Such people are not permitted under federal and state law to buy firearms. And this year, the state uploaded more than 2,000 new records of mentally ill Georgians to the database – people committed for inpatient treatment; found incompetent to handle their own affairs; or found guilty of a crime but mentally ill.

But the state also took down almost 500 other records in 2015, making it possible for scores of mentally ill people to acquire guns legally anywhere in the country.

Why?

Because in Georgia, it’s the law: Once a record of a commitment in Georgia has been on the National Instant Background Check System for five years, state law requires that it be removed. So even as the state is adding hundreds of commitment records each year, it is also deleting hundreds more as they hit the five-year limit.

in a sort of related story, eotech is being sued by the government. they are offering a buyback of full retail price for their sights

I thought their stuff was good, I actually like mine. That is until I heard all this, I'm sending it back

Sure, if you could ensure you changed batteries before going out.
Had enough batts for the worst case scenario you were going to be out
Had a replacement for when it loses the spring or otherwise breaks from you breathing too hard on it

And now as long as you keep your weapon acclimated and won't have a 20 degree shift in temp
Great

Or you can still use anaimpoint after it was in a house fire and hold zero

This case seems simple enough. Preventing Americans from sharing these files is a violation of both the 1st and 2nd.

http://www.newsweek.com/3d-printed-guns-put-guarantee-free-speech-test-408628

The State Department has ordered the company to stop online publication of certain CAD (Computer-Aided Drafting) files—complex three-dimensional printing specifications with no intellectual-property protection—even domestically. These files can be used to 3D-print the Liberator, a single-shot handgun.

The government believes that the files that could be used to print the Liberator are subject to theInternational Trafficking in Arms Regulations, because they could be downloaded by foreigners and thus are “exports” of arms information that could cause unlawful acts.

When Defense Distributed, ably represented by Alan Gura and Josh Blackman, challenged this restriction of its right to disseminate information to Americans—which the State Department’s own guidance says is protected by the First Amendment—the federal district court ruled for the government.

Yeah, it gives you a bit of OCD to make sure it stays on, but I'd much rather have the TA that aimpoint definitely doesn't have. Just my .02. I didn't had a long career, but to the extent that I've used it, I've never had any problems.

If you could direct me to the studies where you've seen the temp affect it I'd love to see that actually. Anecdotally, I've ran it where the temp swung wildly from night to day with no problems at all.
