The 2021 Heavies Awards - FrankieNYC Award (Poster of the Year) Nominations - (CLOSED)

On top of my head...

@Zebra Cheeks - Imo the best poster in the heavies in the Covid era, hands down. Very knowledgeable and has passion for MMA. Really great guy, very helpful, always keeps an open mind and really funny. I owe a lot of things to this guy and he has my utmost respect.

@Jackonfire - aka the GOAT. Very hardworking in the PBP threads. Very helpful. Down to earth and chill guy. Very lenient at times and lets the guys have the right amount of fun and laughter in the heavies.

@Rebelfett - the self proclaimed 'P4P worst mod' but he's definitely not. Aside from the heavies, he has been very active in other subforums, and always spreads a positive vibe wherever he goes. This guy WORKS his ass off. Don't forget how he gives 'likes' on every post, in every PBP, for a WHOLE year.

@Substance Abuse - prolly the most active guy in the heavies, even before he turned blue, hands down. Straight up no BS poster who has kept it real since day 1. I've known this guy since I was a white belt and he has checked me a couple of times (the hard way) but it DID made me a better poster. He's doing God's work in the heavies and one of the most dedicated and hardest workers in the forums. Realest guy in the room

@PurpleStorm - Nicest guy in the heavies. Always spread positivity and good vibes in the forums. Very active in the PBPs and is very level headed on whoever he interacts with in the forums. If ever you had an interaction with him, you're instantly friends, guaranteed.

@bigwaverider - Shoop GOAT. Stellar work on the Shoop contests and Avatar threads. There's a reason he's won this award twice already, and it's his works. Great guy too, very friendly and very helpful.

@Ironnik94 - Top notch poster and highly cerebral with his takes on topics/discussions and breaking down fights. Really enjoyed reading his posts and takes on upcoming matches and predictions. He's that damn good.

@fortheo - Highly knowledgeable and excellent MMA poster. His posts are always quality posts. You always learn a new thing or two whenever you come across one of his posts/replies on threads. He's a Sherdog gem.

@HHJ - OG poster who is always fun to be around. Always had good (and funny) takes and replies to every topic and keeps the threads going. I always have that respect for this guy for being a heavies mainstay all through these years and it was a pleasure meeting him.

@Reign009 - when talking about presence in the heavies, he is your guy. He may have short/brief replies most of the time but it keeps the threads going, and suddenly, those threads were alive. That's what I love about this guy. A great poster as well and has kept it real in the forums. Him breaking to the top 20 'most likes' on the members page this year is an indication that posters like his stuff.

@Kryptt - Worldwide MMA PBP King. Very kind and thoughtful on tagging the boys when there's a non UFC event going on. One of the best posters which is known for this unique quality in the forums. Much props to his effort. Also a solid all around poster. Can do shoops, avatars, PBP threads, you name it.

@KazDibiase and @Ladder Master - for all the OUTSTANDING gifs. Salute to you guys. Thank you for all the gifs all these years. You're an asset to the Heavies. And btw, Kaz might prolly defend his title again this year. Let's not forget he's the reigning, defending, undisputed POTY.

@TARTARA - If there's a best newcomer award, TRTR wins hands down. A very loyal poster who emerged as one of the best Shoopers we have. Props to all his effort and for being a positive presence in the forums.

@Dead Kennedy - For his weekly "what's everyone eating, drinking, etc." threads. Somehow a fight night isn't complete without those threads. Is also well respected by his peers, and has shown great support in different events on the community.

Whether it's keen analysis, making me laugh my ass off, or just generally lifting the spirits of the entire thread, these posters always seem to be able to come through in one way or another for me.

Awesome job on the thread, @giovanni_ss It really looks great, and is a great tribute to FrankieNYC.

If I said what I liked about each of these posters, I’d be writing this post forever. So I’m just gonna slap down some names and try my best not to forget anyone.

As a lot of you know, I have a lot of love for this sub. I can name about 500 posters I really enjoy the presence of, so this is tricky. If you’re left off I really apologize. I do make an effort to mix it up.

@TARTARA - one of the most pleasant surprises of the year. I initially didn’t really understand what was going on, but once I got to know him and some of the shoop guys took him under their wing, he’s turned into a really great presence. Contributions for shooping is fantastic, and very comical and fun.

@fortheo - I will always nominate this poster. Hands down, one of the most intelligent, reasonable, and well spoken guys on the board. Shares my love for some of my favorite fighters like rob font and Calvin Kattar.

@giovanni_ss - this last year he’s been the premier thread starter for news threads. Not only does he update them, keep them current, label them concisely and add relevant media, but he also typically adds polls and doesn’t shy away from the lesser stories that still generate fun discussion. On top of that, he stepped up as a mod a good chunk through the year, and has made massive contributions on the back end. Plus, he’s clearly one of the nicest guys on the forum.

@Hellowhosthat - Funny, charismatic…but more than anything else he consistently blows me away with his in depth knowledge of worldwide MMA and non ufc orgs. The guy really cares about the sport and I can’t wait to see what kind of new ideas he’ll continue to bring forward.

@Viking Power - one of the most enjoyable regulars on the website. I’ve had the pleasure of talking with him a few times, and the discussions are always outstanding. Very friendly, very reasonable. Great temperament. I always get excited when I have a notification from him cause I know it’ll be a solid chat.

@Kryptt One if the most fun regulars in the pbp. From calling for everyone to finish their drink after a nut shot, to comical gifs, I always enjoy his presence, and it wouldn’t feel like a true pbp if there’s no @Kryptt

@Substance Abuse This guys grown so much from the time I first met him. He’s always been a fun poster, but he’s definitely ramped up the intelligent posting and added a calmness to his demeanor that suits him really well.

@PurpleStorm - If you don’t know, now you know. Coolest car in the heavies, and arguably one of the nicest dudes you’ll ever meet. He’s really taken to the mod thing on, and I suspect will be a top class mod for a very long time on the website.

@Shay Brennan - newer poster who I have really high hopes for. Very engaged in a lot of fun discussions, and recently has been making some ranking/rating threads that are quite fun.

@Ironnik94 - What can I say? He’s a main stay in the heavies by now. Classy. Very intelligent. And I have to say the shoops he did this year for ms paint were fucking great.

@BFoe - One of the dudes that keeps me coming back every year. There’s a familiarity and level of sincerity in his posts that makes him very enjoyable to chat with. Lots of fun on fight nights, and he’s brought some great energy to the plat pick ems and I’d argue, has really brought that part of the website to life.

@Jackonfire - I mean, he’s the goat. Most consistent, fair, and overall chill mod. His constant dedication to making timely pbp threads makes him a lock in for me every year.

I might add some more later but this is it for now. Merry Christmas everyone. Thanks for making this forum a better place

Thanks anyone who mentioned me. You're selfless and a scholar who is also more than likely a bit bigger than your average Suredawgger at 6'7", 266.

This isn't is the easiest award to choose for, as there's only ten people who will be nominated, but there's a ton of people who are definitely deserving. From the Play by Plays to random posts and hilarious shoops that have brought happy tears to my eyes, I love this place and the following posters are those who have made it that much better this past year.

@Zebra Cheeks @giovanni_ss @Rebelfett @KazDibiase @HHJ @IngaVovchanchyn @MXZT @Ares Black @BFoe @Kryptt @TARTARA @Hellowhosthat @Carrotman23 @RonJhun808 @Sweater of AV @bigwaverider @Ironnik94 @HI SCOTT NEWMAN @Jackonfire @fortheo @Clementine

I'm sure my tired old synapse is forgetting some. But i do appreciate those that do their best to keep the original vibes of sherdog going.

Edit: forgot to mention also in loving memory of FrankieNYC. He will always be one of our boys, and remembered forever on these forums.

As well as i would like to give a shout out to @Dreyga2000 as i believe them to be one of the more improved posters. I'm fairly certain they have me on ignore as I was giving them the gears in a previous thread of theirs long ago. But i do find their threads and discourse to be much improved from what I used to give them crap for. Might not even see this cause like i said fairly certain i'm on ignore. But tip of the cap no less.

I ugh……I know that this is “just a dumb karate forum”, and at the end of the day I always try to keep it light and fun and try not to take sherdog too seriously. But I’ve found myself being completely isolated due to Covid and the nature of my work, and it’s been like that for 2 or so years now and quite frankly without this sub and it’s posters I think this whole thing would have been even harder than it has been.

Y’all some of the realest dudes I’ve ever met and I really appreciate all the kind words and nominations.

@BFoe for me, just a helluva well rounded poster with a good temperament and always backs up his claims and opinions.

Worshiping Lord Fedor doesn't hurt his cause either. ;)
Shit man, thank you so much for the shout out. I really appreciate the kind words, and I hope you and your fam and friends have a great Christmas and new year.

Y’all some of the realest dudes I’ve ever met and I really appreciate all the kind words and nominations.

Just want to say thanks to everyone who nominated me. Very kind of all of you as I know I can be a polarizing poster and am asshole sometimes.

That said though, @Zebra Cheeks I feel the exact same way. When Covid hit, I was stuck at home for almost six months as I've got a inhalation condition and had to work remotely for months. I was alone for a long period of time. I was sitting around doing almost nothing but playing games and doing random bullshit.

When the fights came back, it felt like a small piece of the world set itself straight and I re-dedicated myself to the forum. I absolutely cannot state how much I've enjoyed the PBPs and how much fun they were when I lost the ability to hang out with my buddies who I had been watching fights with for about a decade.

So cheers to this forum. I appreciate you guys. Have a safe and happy holidays. I'm going to drink to that.

Here we go!
@giovanni_ss
His breakout year, there's no doubt about that! Constantly feeds us with news and is by far one of the most pleasant posters to be around and have a chat with here - all in all a fun, passionate hardcore and one of THE gentlemen of this forum!

@Zebra Cheeks
I mean what can i say? Consistent and reliable as hell, puts a lot of work into this forum and just all around excellent: knowledgeable when it comes to MMA (and thus great to have a talk about the finger things with) and as i mentioned, hard-working and very reliable, both as a mod and a friend! Everything else than a top four placement would be a crime and i with his consistency i fully expect to be able to say these exact same things in 365 days as well.

@BFoe
A little less active this year (i think) but still absolutely deserving to be nominated here, much like giovanni_ss, BFoe is just a really, really great dude. Not only does he know his shit and is particularly knowledgeable when it comes to the early 2000s of MMA, he's also in the sherdog league of extraordinary gentlemen - if you don't get along with him, chances are, you're a terrible person and that's no exaggeration, he's just that f*cking solid of a dude.

@Substance Abuse
Someone who nominated him before me, mentioned that he really got calm(er) and i'm glad i'm not the only person who felt that way, lmao! I swear that around the time he changed his AV from the triple-h-gif to Max Holloway, he became a much more laid-back person - but just for clarification: he never was a dickhead or so (at least not from what i've seen, lol), but what i wanted to say, is that he has not lost one of his best qualities and that's being straight-forward as f*ck and calling out BS when he sees (or reads) it, which is very important for sherdog to stay sherdog. Last but not least, he's one of the most passionate and hardcore MMA OGs on this forum and it should go without saying that he too, knows what he's talking about, so listen to him!

@Safton has nominated me and though he's one of the less active guys between those i've nominated, he gets one of my votes, also because i feel that he flies a bit under the radar (which again, i think is due to him not being a hyper-active maniac), but he's one of the most cerebral people you can talk about MMA with on here, so if you see a wall of text in a thread besides his name, don't scroll past it! Take your time and read it, you'll notice it was worth your time!

@fortheo what i've written about Safton just above here, is basically my opinion about fortheo as well, he's a very intelligent poster with a great eye for details that are easy to miss and constitutes the kind of poster that makes people look up this forum and/or sign up because they feel that they're at the right-adress for everything in-depth regarding MMA.

@Ares Black is just the blue-print for the all-around great poster: knowledgeable and unapologetic but never to the extent that make him an asshat and he too, is one of the absolute mainstays of the heavies ever since i've been here (i know it hasn't been THAT long, but still) and i'm happy about that, because he's the exact type of person that elevates the overall quality of such a forum. Also one of the well-educated people regarding prospects from non-UFC-orgs and of course, women's MMA.

@pankrat it's a bit of a shame - but no accusation - that he's not more active, because he might just be the most straight-forward and unapologetic poster on this site; if there's BS which isn't meant to be an obvious troll, he'll absolutely call it out - and rather clear, i might add! In order to talk the talk, one also needs to walk the walk, or, to speak less picturesque, know one's stuff and pankrat absolutely does - his knowledge encompasses the early stages to the most recent stages of MMA and the very science of fighting itself too, which becomes obvious rather quickly, should you stumble upon one of his many long discussions with other posters on here.

@rear naked ankle pick it is said that genius and madness are very closely related and it's hard to deny that when i come across this guy's posts, which are with little exception, almost always found within the first five posts inside a thread - it's hard to throw superlatives out when i talk about the qualities of posters here, but this guy, to me, is by far the funniest poster on this site, i lost count on how many times the responses - mostly one-liners - from him had me like:
{<jordan}
I sincerely hope he NEVER gets banned and NEVER changes that iconic AV of his, which fits him perfectly.

@Hellowhosthat probably the most mentioned poster ITT from what i saw thus far and should that be correct, it's just as understandable why. Like pretty much everyone who has nominated him has said, he's an encyclopedia of MMA, especially when it comes to prospects. There were quite a few instances this year, when i've either tagged him or asked him about prospects i had no clue about and within a short amount of time, he gave me a quick and concise summary about said fighter(s). Just a tremendous guy and he also happens to have great comedic timing, that should be noted too!

@Arqueto a mainstay of the heavies and one of the figurehead's of sherdog's shoop-crew. Super pleasant and fun to interact with and - as many others can attest - also very creative! Has captured Frankie Edgar's disfigured face in an absolutely inimtable and astonishingly pleasant to look at and creative manner, capturing more votes per single shoop than anyone else in the latest shoop threads, despite lots of great submissions! Check it out:

@bigwaverider THE guy that pops up in my head first when i hear or read the word "shoop" and i'm certain i'm not the only person who feels this way. He's a great guy, a very good mod and his shoop skills are absolutely stellar - the only thing that has me just as perplexed about him, if not even more, is this guy's workload and how he manages it - it's hard not to assume him to be some octopus who works from several PCs (or smartphones) at once, considering the gargantuan amount of work he puts into this forum all the time, particularly when it comes to everything shoop-related.
When you're reading this, thanks again for everything you've done in and for the recent shoop threads, it's been a blast mate!

@HI SCOTT NEWMAN might be the genuinely friendliest and most welcoming person on this forum, he's a hardcore OG and the best adress if you just wanna have a good, fun time, as his sense for interpersonal relations is just as impeccable as his GIF-game!

@Natural Order another OG who is a great addition to this forum not only because he's so often spot on with his takes, but also because he's reliably a no bullsh*t guy who i always enjoy and am interested listening to!

@TARTARA i think he's by far the newest poster on my list; he started off here by being a strange but super friendly lad and quickly became one of the posters with the highest output on here, grinding like crazy both in the directly MMA-related parts of the heavies, but in particular in the shoop threads, where he delivers and churns out GIFs and shoops for fun!

@Carrotman23 is one of the most recent posters and one of my favorite people on here! It's kinda hard to put into words, but he doesn't give a f*ck in the best way possible and is just great to have a chat about no matter what with, but also to have a good laugh from time to time!

I didn't know Frankie had passed away. I had noticed that he hasn't been around since I came back from prison. He put in a lot of work for this forum, and was a good dude, one of my buds here. Pretty bummed that he is gone.

Damn, Bob. Didn't know you didn't know. Sorry man.

Here we go!
@giovanni_ss
His breakout year, there's no doubt about that! Constantly feeds us with news and is by far one of the most pleasant posters to be around and have a chat with here - all in all a fun, passionate hardcore and one of THE gentlemen of this forum!

@Zebra Cheeks

@BFoe

@Substance Abuse

Thanks for the shout, my friend. You’re always one of my favorite posters on the site, you have such a great eye for breaking down fights and analyzing fighters. You were one of my votes for POTY last year and will be again this year. Hope you had a great Christmas.

Wow thank you for this well informed breakdown it was a great read.

@Hellowhosthat if worldwide MMA doesn’t do an award thread, you’re welcome to DM me. We can talk shop and if you’d like to set something up, I could sticky, etc… and give you some examples of how some of the lesser trafficked subs do their awards. Inbox is open
