News The 2020 Likepocalypse

So many people made an identity on their like count

We attributed quality of poster to it even

Most people just posted memes, attention seeking posts and said things that most people could agree with

It's said nothing about the quality or intelligence of the poster.

This should be done more often just to take that element away.

We would probably get better posting overall as a result, as less people would care about dedicating their posting existence to like whoring

Alright, here's the deal man. Tech has reset Like counters to zero. They did this because the system was getting too clogged up - you may have noticed serious browsing issues the last few months, and this is why.

Please don't e-suicide your accounts because of this. We know this sucks, and that they meant a lot to some of you, but it was either this or have a janky forum. Parent company went with the former.

Tech has also implemented a limiter for standard accounts, where posters should only be able to like a certain number of posts each day. This also applies to profile posts and comments as well.

Any thought of just sh!tcanning likes altogether? I mean, this will happen again at some point, right?

Disclaimer: I'm a middle-aged guy who thinks "likes" are a microcosm of what's wrong with modern society.

I'm not into social media and bs with likes and thumbs up but seriously this like system worked as some sort of notification system that the other person saw your post, is aware of it, is looking at your stuff etc etc.

It was/is really handy. Even in cases that I'm too lazy to respond or no need for a quote I just give a respectful like to let the other guy I saw his comment and appreciate it.

So really glad we still have that function active this was my main concern I'm not one to care about the popularity contest and numbers but we do have peeps like @Clippy that share the joy and for them and us is sucks we got deleted millions of clicks overnight. Tech team not a cool moment at all first the dodgy search now the likes the forum is getting worse not better just from the tech logistics.

Exactly right.

Likes are not the biggest deal in the world, but they do add value to the site.

As you explained, it is often a way to tell when someone has read your post.

It also does help create a sense of comradery. You kinda get the feel of some posters just based off what they like.

Feel like IT department could have done a much better job handling this situation.

As other posters have said though, it is what it is.

lmao i mean... who gives a fuck about likes? but... still.... i like to see the staff take all this well deserved shit. they absolutely suck at their no pay, low demand, extremely easy job.

@TheSpider scrambling on all of his alts to to like boost his Homoerotic silva posts

while i like the idea of acknowledging posters who contribute meaningful (if not entertaining) content, I think it creates echo chamber-esque forum culture that promotes dishonest posting. (Conor bashing just for likes ect)
This is correct. However here's the problem, Sherdog relies on traffic for money. When you get rid of the like system you're also cutting down the traffic to the site. The people who stay on here 24/7 will have less incentive to post, or spend time on Sherdog. If this site loses even 10% of it's traffic that's going to hurt.
