...When do my daily ration of likes get re-set? Does it literally calculate 24 hours from when I used them or is there a big reset at a certain time of day? If 24 hours, then does it bring the whole 50 back from the first one I used yesterday or will they trickle in one at a time exactly 24 hours after I used them. This is all so very strange.

I’ll be honest I’m not sure how the “reset” works. Let me make a post about it in the booth and see if I can get more information for you. Stay tuned

This is a fun engineering decision, could've been avoided by moving likes data to a cache like Redis or even a key value store like DynamoDB/Cassandra which can easily handle high write loads

Can you add to your post that almost everyone in this thread is overwhelmingly against continuing with a like system/counter from now on please bro?

I like getting the notifications, but to me having a counter from now on is pointless... It was fun while it lasted and all that, but it's over... Just let it sink into the sea and let's move on... Things were fine before.

Tbh, if anything i think it will improve content overall... Less gif-whoring, people will be forced to comment on things that they might have normally just liked before which will bump threads, and it would take away the bitterness...

The only threads that will suffer are shoop threads... Likes really helped to un-clutter them, but apart from that I reckon this could be a blessing in disguise... And I had 100k+ likes.
 
Imagine thinking LIKES were destroying the bandwith of a server rather than the thousands of GIFS and other pointless bullshit pictures being posted in the majority of posts and one particular sub-forum.

Yeah brother. It’s been an ongoing discussion. There’s a lot of pros/cons to both side of things.

On one hand it can be a valuable tool to incentivize posts that contribute and aren’t spam, and replace “this” or “+1”, but then of course you get things like people spamming gifs of Ronda getting head kicked, posting bikini photos in the pbp or Conor tapping to accumulate “likes”.

There’s trade-offs. And I think the staff recognizes that and is trying to find some form of balance. The reset was technical, but it’s now an opportunity to re evaluate “likes” and “like culture”.

Could there not be a way of keeping the like button, but not having a count on people's profiles?

That way you still get to bask in the glory of a 10/10 would read again mega-post, but you wouldn't be able to wave it in everyones faces like the only homie at the bukkake party.
