2017 Heavies Awards Winners
Thank you to everyone who participated in any of the Heavies Awards threads from this past year. The polls have all closed, and here are our results!
Winners
Poster of the Year - @Arm Barbarian

http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/t...ear-final-round-winner-arm-barbarian.3693209/
With 99 votes in the Final Round, after receiving a first round bye due to his overwhelming support in the nomination thread, Arm Barbarian stomped and giffed his way to the title!
Fighter of the Year - Robert Whittaker

http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/t...-of-the-year-winner-robert-whittaker.3692863/
Robert "Bobby Knuckles" Whittaker took the top spot after knocking out Jacare Souza and then beating Yoel Romero by decision to earn the interim belt, before getting his belt upgraded to the undisputed belt (although in 2018 his belt was again disputed as he is still dealing with a serious medical issue and Luke Rockhold will face Romero for the interim belt in a few months). In a close contest, Whittaker held off Max Holloway to take the top spot of Fighter of the Year by just seven votes, with a total of 110 votes out of 314.
Story of the Year - The Tragic Tale of Jon Jones

http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/t...r-jon-jones-does-what-jon-jones-does.3691423/
Emerging from suspension in June 2017, Jon Jones came back to KO Daniel Cormier to get his belt back in dramatic fashion, and then tested positive for Turnabol and was stripped of his belt for the THIRD TIME. Jon Jones, get your stuff together, we're waiting for you. The sad story of Jon Jones beat out other top stories including the mega fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, as well as Georges St-Pierre returning from retirement to win a belt in a weight class above his previous one and then retire once again. The story of Jones won 107 votes out of 328 votes cast.
Fight of the Year - Justin Gaethje vs Michael Johnson at TUF 26 Finale
http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/t...er-justin-gaethje-vs-michael-johnson.3690703/
No need to discuss it, just watch it again: https://www.ufc.tv/video/justin-gaethje-vs-michael-johnson-the-ultimate-fighter-25-finale. This fight scored 125 votes out of a total of 315.
Event of the Year - UFC 217

http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/t...ufc-event-of-the-year-winner-ufc-217.3690219/
I'm not surprised, mister falcons, this event crushed the opposition in the polls, no other event came close and for good reason. Three belts on the line, and three new champions. With 248 votes out of 312, it was never even close.
Breakout Fighter of the Year - Francis "The Predator" Ngannou

http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/t...r-of-the-year-winner-francis-ngannou.3689089/
With two brutal first round knockout wins of Andrei Arlovski and Alistair Overeem (of which we will discuss again soon), Francis Ngannou catapulted himself into title contention, where he fought for the HW strap at UFC 220 in 2018. Ngannou earned 160 votes of 397, over twice as many votes as the next closest contender, Volkan Oezdemir.
Prospect of the Year - Zabit Magomedsharipov

http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/t...he-year-winner-zabit-magomedsharipov.3688809/
At just 26 years of age, this newcomer picked up two submission wins in 2017, earning himself two "Performance of the Night" bonuses along the way. Magomedsharipov (get used to writing out his name more as we move forward) had stiff competition in the fighter formerly known as Paulo Borrachinha, now Paulo Costa, but he won by 11 votes. Picking up 164 votes of 398, he's going to be a force to be reckoned with in the featherweight division.
Walkout Song of the Year - "Techno Syndrome (Mortal Kombat)" by The Immortals, from the Mortal Kombat Soundtrack
http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/t...winner-techno-syndrome-mortal-kombat.3688213/
Winning by just ONE vote, the theme song from the Mortal Kombat film edged "Fight to Survive" by Stan Bush from the Bloodsport soundtrack, 78 to 77, with a total of 261 votes cast.
Submission of the Year - Demetrious Johnson's "Mighty Wiz-bar"
http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/t...r-demetrious-johnsons-mighty-wiz-bar.3687843/
Submitting Ray Borg with one of the most impressive submissions we've ever seen in the fifth round of a fight he was dominating, Demetrious Johnson outdid himself with this submission. This was the clear favorite, and even though Alexey Oleinik's no-gi Ezekiel choke was amazing to behold, Johnson's submission was the stuff of legend. Johnson's armbar scored 321 votes out of a total of 500 submitted votes
Knockout of the Year - Francis Ngannou demolishing Alistair Overeem

http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/t...rancis-ngannou-over-alistair-overeem.3687451/
The uppercut heard round the world, Francis Ngannou cemented his spot as a top heavyweight contender with this thunderous knockout. It cruised to an easy victory on our poll, earning 300 votes out of 646 votes cast.
Coach of the Year - Duane "Bang" Ludwig
http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/t...of-the-year-winner-duane-bang-ludwig.3687129/
Duane Ludwig put himself back on the map by coaching TJ Dillashaw back to the belt with a win over rival Cody Garbrandt, as well as bringing out the unearthly hellbow of Matt Brown to completely flatline Diego Sanchez. Ludwig earned 153 out of 359 votes.
2017 Shonuf Award - Mod of the Year - @Arkridge

http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/the-2017-shonuf-award-mod-of-the-year-winner-arkridge.3689709/
With 109 votes in a poll that exploded, Arkridge, our own burgeoning writer with his finger always on the pulse of the MMA community, deserves this award wholeheartedly. We're proud of you brother, for everything you have done for this community this year, and I'm sure shonuf would be proud as well.
Shooper of the Year - @Buff

In a contest that took a good month to put together, amidst a sea of incredibly talented artists and shoopers, Buff reigned supreme. His contribution to shoop threads is almost unrealistic, because he's always there putting something brilliant together. Shooper of the Year is a big deal considering the level of talent we have here, and you earned it, buddy. Well done.
