This entirely depends on what middle eras you feel were most competitive with deeper talent.... so subjective. I'm a bit biased but Gegard a 6 time world champion( better half at middle) over every top promotion over 20 years and is still a top 10 middle. He doesn't hold UFC gold but was on his way as he left on a five fight stoppage streak.
I mean - he's #2 for my money but I'm not going to push back with the 2-3( maybe 4?) where legit debates can be made ....obviously Adesanya one of those.

Most would say Izzy cause he has more success in a premier organization. I think Izzy is certainly the 2nd best MW in the UFC. But overall it gets tricky with a guy like Mousasi if were considering entire career. Mousasi is the last of the fighters that span multiple organizations, you just don't really see that anymore. But look at the titles and accomplishments.

Strikeforce LHW champion
Dream MW champion
Cage Rage MW champion

39-6 at MW with a dam good resume of wins, Weidman, Belfort, Hendo, Jacare, Santos, Machida, Lima, Carvahlo, Leitas, Munoz, Kang, Lombard, Hall, Rory Mac. These are all top 5/10 ranked fighters. I am inclined to put him over Izzy.
