Social Tesla Owners TME

I’ve got 3 in the driveway. Once I went to electric, I don’t think I’ll ever head back. Maybe a 911 in the future but back to an ICE? Not a chance. I’ve had a number of BMW’s and Benz’, I can’t get back into a regular car. Just not my thing.

I love my new Y.

Anyways, get yourself a level 2 charger. Call an electrician, and you’ll be fine. It charges like 32-33 mph. You’ll have a full charge overnight. But don’t charge it to 100% regularly. Get 80-85 is sufficient.

Good Lawd, you have a fleet.
I must confess, what surprised me the most is the torque. It should not have, I thought I was prepared.
It's probably too much for pedestrians

I live 2 miles from the Freeway- have to merge uphill and fight Amazon workers going 85 late for work the next exit up.
I'm not trying to floor my car with it's oil not up to temp to keep up

This solved all that

Another thing you’re going to notice is that you won’t realize how fast you’re going at times. Sometimes, with the new Y, feels like I’m coasting, and I look I am doing over 90. That instant gratification never gets old. My Model 3, this September will be 5 years, and you never get tired of that instant boom.

Today marks 1 week in
I live 2 miles off the Freeway and work 1 mile off it. 7 miles each way. But its a mad house of drivers
2 days in I passed a flock going slow -I looked and was at 111
It scared the shit outta me

They take years to charge with a 120v outlet, good luck with that
Overnight is fine with a normal chord 110. I was surviving a cybertruck on a normal chord for months, 14 miles a day is low, should be fine.

As for the charger, the tesla version is $250 and can do 30A @220 or 12 @ 110 (likely rate) and should produce ~4 miles an hour worth of charging , you can probably charge twice a week overnight and be fine. It’s nice having a home charger, even if 110v only.

I also had just the 120v charger for a little bit with my Model S when I first got it, it was obnoxiously slow but I also drive a lot. There were a few times I ended up paying to charge it at a public station because it would only gain like 50 miles of range overnight.
Since getting a 240v home charge station I’ve used public chargers maybe a handful of times in 7 years.

For OP and his limited usage, the 120v will be fine, I was just being a jackass about the “years” comment because it is slow as shit.

A tip for @Jacket time in case you weren’t aware- resist the urge to keep the battery “topped off” unless you’ve got somewhere far to go the next day, especially when it’s hot outside. The fewer charge cycles, the longer the battery will maintain its full state of health, so if possible drive it down until around 20/30%, then charge it back up to 80%.

For sure, 32 @ 220 vs 12 @ 120 is something like 5x the rate!

Definitely huge for multiple TSLA’s, however, i have a plug in hybrid that DOES NOT do proper level 2 charging, puny battery, takes hours to charge, super annoying.

You typically get 3 miles per hour through a normal outlet. It really depends on your driving if it will work for you.

At times I've managed TWO cars (one EV one Plug-In) via the normal wall outlet.

My electric panel is full and it will be an expensive PIA to get a level 2 charger installed, but there has also just never been a need.

Having said that, if you have to spring for a mobile charger anyway, you may as well consider just installing the level 2 charger. But that's not even an option for the poster as he lives in an apartment.
