It seems par for the course with most 70's/80's franchises these days, put out a lazy film and each time have a unique bit of nostalgia to sell it, how many such films have actually been good this millennium? Fury Road and Rogue One but little else I can remember, I spose Predators was decent.

Reboots seem to have a bad name for some reason but honestly carrying on franchises well beyond their used by date Is worse, films become confuses messes of lore that sell themselves on nerdish references rather than the tight concepts the originals had. Remaking films with some ambition actually has the potential for great work, The Thing, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the Fly, Sorcerer, etc, indeed I'd say Fury Road is a semi remake.

if Hollywood really must stick to these franchises then go back to basics with the original concept, mix things up a bit plot/setting wise, have a budget more around $50-80 million so you can aim at an r-rated adult audience and still make money.

Look at Halloween 2018. Not an amazing movie but a throwback to the original as far as being low budget and a back to basics approach. And....it made a lot of money and has been greenlit 2 sequels. It seems like they are trying to re-capture the magic that was T2 over and over. That's never going to happen. T1 and T2 told a perfect story. Sure, you can delve into other ideas in that universe but it's a fruitless attempt.

It would be like making sequels to the Wizard of Oz. You're never going to beat the original so what's the point? All you are doing is pissing off fans of the original, not attracting any new fans and tainting the name of the brand. Why not just make a new movie of a killer robot that is Terminator inspired? Doing that, you at least have a chance of creating a new IP and getting a new fan base.

weve seen this setting before howz about something set within the future timeline.

this honestly looks boring.

Did you miss Salvation?

The problem is T1 and T2 were smart, and now they just give us any dumb bombastic actioner with a Terminator in it and expect the same reception.

While I'm not particularly interested in this movie, I must say it is at least the most interesting since T2.

This seems more akin to the recent sequels it is replacing to be, focused on selling the film by a new Terminator and some confused geekish nostalgia heavy lore and the same bland action formula we've seen a million times. If you want another T2 then first you need to make another T1 to play off of but doing that it a much more ambitious undertaking.

The idea of a "woke" Terminator film seems pretty strange to me considering that franchise and Alien/s were always female lead films. If anything but sticking with the same kind of dorkbuster mold pretty much ensures you will NOT have a another role on the level of Ripley or Sarah Connor as the film will be more a mass of action, nostalgia and some confused and over cooked/under written plot.

Go back to the original concept of either of these franchises, give it to a quality director(Gareth Edwards, Johnath Glazer, Denis Vlleneuve etc) and I'm guessing you wouldn't have any trouble getting someone like Johansson, Olsen or Portman involved with some potential for actual depth.

An anorexic lesbian vs a limp wrist hipster? These are our Terminators?

Ugh. Yuck.

The originals are back along with Cameron. No idea how they get Furlong in shape tho. This might be decent

LMAO at anyone who thought Tim Miller was a good director.

This is going to be a dumpster fire....

Anything Cameron touches is gold, be shocked if this isn't at least good.

Cameron wouldnt put his name on it n produce it an it be like Genesis or Salvation. Be shocked if it isnt decent. Wont be epic like T2 but will be good.

I'm willing to eat crow because I love T1 and T2 but Cameron's greatest strength lies in his control and ability to have basically mastered all aspects of the filming process.

From initial concept to script writing to direction and even understanding SFX and practical FX, he can tell his story from start to finish. It's why he's a madman but it's also why his films are considered classic cinema.

I just don't see that happening with Dark Fate, his name is there to get a producing credit and get $$$$

James Cameron has produced terrible films

Atila Battle Angel
Sanctum

He has also directed terrible films

True Lies

Just like in Salvation.

This movie is a complete mish mash of all the shit people complained about in the other films.

Having a Terminator protect John Conor in T2 and having this in Dark Fate really irks me my man

Where is the tension when the main character has 2 huge Terminator protecting him/her?

Back in T1 they got it right. Kyle Reese was a human trying to take down a fucking Terminator

Throughout Terminator 1 Kyle talks bout how hard its is to take down Terminators

How deadly they are

And with the decked stacked against him Kyle Reese comes through at the end

“You don’t fight them, you RUN” is what I remeber him saying.

And it’s been years since I saw it.

But also because of how he was limited in weapons being back in the last.

Like Arnold asking for the plasma rifle in the gun shop.
