I think 3 could have been interesting if they got Linda back and Eddie Furlong wasn't messed up. I know the original plan was to have them but Eddie couldn't stay clean. I think a story of him not living up to Linda's vision could have worked. T3 has its moments but unfortunately is ultimately pointless which is what seemingly happens with all of the number 3s in franchises.
With the right intentions, Terminator 3 could have at least been a Rambo 3. Something respectable and in the right spirit.
John Connor not living up to the vision could have been interesting, but the goofs that wrote Terminator 3 certainly couldn't have pulled it off. They wrote John Connor as a damsel in distress from start to finish, being whisked along to safety by jokey Terminator and some girl from junior high.
I would say it is literally impossible for people to write and film "Chief Master Sergeant William Candy" and also have a filmmaking intent that is in any way compatible with what the Terminator franchise was at the time.
The list of what they screwed up in that third film is just so long... The film was so far off the mark that it somehow actually managed to not show sufficient respect to both Dr. Silberman and Cyberdyne Systems.
And it's not exactly easy to insult a character that commands as little reverence as Dr. Silberman.
