Just watched it again on blu-ray and it still holds up. Ending gives me the feels.
Why it's great:
- The struggle and reward. The characters are never given an easy choice. Because of the struggle, there's payoff to the action scenes:
Sarah escaping the mental hospital. She was abused and seen as a psycho.
Arnold not killing anyone but still escaping from CyberDyne. If he was able to kill all the cops, there'd be no tension because it'd have been too easy.
Characters:
The characters aren't stupid and one dimensional. They all have there reasons, even Sarah trying to kill Dyson.
- The action scenes:
Unlike most of today's action movies, there are no quick cuts. The scenes are easy to understand and badass at the same time. You never get lost on what's going on.
Practical effects is used as much as possible. Action scenes feel heavy and meaningful
The weapons become iconic including the shotgun, minigun and Sarah's M16 (?). Cameron makes everything count, even the sound effects.
Pacing:
The slow scenes build up the characters and shows there motivation. Then it goes to an action scene. We need these scenes so there's tension when the action starts
The score:
Memorable and iconic
TLDR:
T2 is the best because it's a well crafted film.
