Teddy Atlas: Floyd didn't carry Conor

Randomly seen Teddy's inspirational corner speech
Fair enough bro but it’s nothing new. The whole thread has been a pretty pointless debate, not sure why you’re so invested in it but it doesn’t bother me. On topic, I don’t like the word carried here, Floyds game plan worked, Conor did better than many of us thought but it wasn’t enough by a mile.

Because most boxers, analysts and actual smart people dont believe he carried him?

Lol

It's a narrative almost entirely held by biased fans.

Who then want to act like that narrative is an absolute truth.

Delusional folk
That’s not strictly true, Floyd himself said it, which has to have some weight in this discussion. Not just biased fans.

I just like to argue honestly. Lol

Any time I see some holes in an argument, I have this overwhelming need to jump in.

LOL fair enough mate, so do I. I’ll stay out of this one, I’m somewhere in the middle so don’t have a strong opinion to argue.

Enjoy yourself sherbro.

The fight seemed very questionable and rigged like they had an agreement before hand that the fight must go on longer than 5 rounds or some shit. Shady business as usual in boxing.. Floyd has amassed that amount of wins for a reason.. speed, willingness to dodge punches effortlessly.. he could of gassed Conor out with 30 punches to the gut in the first three rounds and won by tko.. Easily!! You cant tell someone with a high iq like myself otherwise.

His team said it too.

But you have to take that with a grain of salt.

He only said it after getting a lot of shit for Conor having that level of success against him.

I seen it more as something to safe face than anything and it worked.

I don't really take words said outside the ring too seriously. Theres always some show or bullshit, exaggeration involved.

The fight always tells a different tale and what we should abide by.

I did also say it's a narrative predominantly held by biased fans. There were a few boxers perpetuating it, but very few overall.

If he did carry him, most boxers would be shouting it from the roof tops from day 1.

90% of pro boxers that commented were incredibly respectful and surprised at the skillset Conor showed. Which speaks more volumes than anything.

Most of the greatest minds in the sport dont believe it.

He was getting tagged early even while he was in his shell.

He knew Conor preaented the most threat early on.

Had he opened up sooner, it would've led to being hit with more counters a lot sooner. Floyd has never been the type to take risks.

He played it safe.

Even his corner was basically eluding that they're just gonna take it to deep water.

He used forward pressure to stifle his range and control the pace, effectively firing him quicker. He made him miss and attacked the body. All of which drained his cardio for the later rounds.

That's the point Floyd took him out of there.

The 7th was Floyd's most dominant up until that point but he arguably lost the 8th. Do people believe Floyd started trying in the 7th and then just stopped again?

A lot of people forget that rounds 4-5-6 were also very competitive as well.

Do we really think Floyd allowed himself to allow that many rounds to get close and take that many blows?

I can see that Floyd may have said it because of the backlash he had but that and the rest is your opinion, and some others too, I can respect that. I know you’re arguing against the people claiming Conor carried him is 100% truth, but the same works in reverse, the truth is in the middle, which is where I stand. I was just pointing out that it isn’t just Conor haters who have said Floyd carried Conor.

Reminder that this is the same guy who made one of the greatest corner speeches of all time

Fans know better though. Obvioualy

Great pep talk but Altas notoriously hates on Floyd and other fighters. He’s coming a place of pure bias, so anyone can see how his opinion in this matter is BULLSHIT.

Floyd purposely held back his offensive, let Conor gas himself out and picked Conor completely apart once that happen.

That’s the definition of carrying someone

He averaged 5 a round for the first 5 rounds...

That's the lowest output of his entire career.

Of course he carried McGregor. It was his promotion and they were charging 100 bucks for the PPV. He had to make the fantastic fiction that Conor was a credible boxer look at least vaguely real for a few rounds.

Once Mayweather felt they got enough mileage on the story he started throwing and then it was over.

I never got tied of watching this gif,
1- Conor is 3 times Mayweather 's size <45>
2- Conor has an open mouth and his face reflect the confidence of a gazelle facing a lion <45>
3- Mayweather attitude is like he is fighting a harmless 10 years old kid

Utter horseshit and I’m Atlas fan . Floyd NEVER has fought like that , gloves up , walk forward robot style into range like that . Even when he was hard punching “ Pretty Boy “ Floyd wrecking people , he didn’t fight like that. And I know “ he wanted Conor to punch himself out !” Theory . He coulda just as easily made Conor chase him and wear himself out by doing his philly shell and pot shorting him to death. But he barely he used his A game Which shows he carried him . He coulda took him out in 3 and Ricky Hattoned him no question .

Floyd would have KO'd Conor in the first round if he had the opportunity, Floyd is the last person who would care about entertaining the fans. The only thing he cares about is winning.

First 3 rounds Floyd did not try. He's putting on a show, giving people what they paid for, and letting Conor burn his gas. After that he was serious. Round 10 he definitely came in to end it.
No one knows. Only thing we know for a fact is Conor took mayweather to 10th rd before getting KOd. Rest is everyone’s opinions which are obviously biased.

Yes.

Floyd fought like Floyd always fights. Safe, defensive, counter punching. Conor is much bigger and longer, and likely much better than Floyd realized. After Conor started to gas Floyd took over, but that doesn’t negate some of the clean shots Conor landed in the first few rounds. Very few fighters have landed as clean on Floyd as Conor did, even if it seemed to have little effect. Watching him slip and rip Mayweather in rd. 1 was surreal.

Not at all. He was a lot more flat footed than usual and even more conservative
