In his recent video, he said that the way Alex walks to the octagon, limping and pretending to throw an arrow, like if he were a hunter, and then, standing in there motionless, blinking occasionally and all... He said that he says to his fighters to not act like a hunter, to show that they are excited and nervous, by moving around. And that Pereira doing that, he looks like the maniac from No Country for Old Men, as if he were trying to crush his opponent by looking at them, trying to show he is the hunter or a bully... And that stillness is not favourable, that motion should be used in that time to warm up their body.

Pereira said way before in podcasts though that he doesn't do that to intimidate the opponent, that many times before, in Glory too, opponents wouldn't engage in looking at him... It's just his way of relieving tension, actually, trying to clear his mind and focus on the fight, kind of trying to be still and comfortable in the environment.

Jiri Prochakza in the Joe Rogan podcast, as well as in other interviews, has a similar mentality, in the sense he says that no matter if the opponents are looking at him or not, that he likes to "channel that energy" by being still, not moving around the cage, and just being focused and blocking himself from anything outside the cage...

What do you think? Like, I think that's a lame take from Teddy. "He's acting like a maniac, like a crazy man instead of warming up himself..." ... I think like Jiri said, every fighter has their own way to feel well and peaceful before a battle, and that he always likes to stay quiet to calm himself and clear his mind.

Think his take is and and this thread is bad for discussing this topic. Works for him most of the time, Teddy had no issue with it before.

They warm up in the back. The walk out is there for presentational purposes and Poatans is the best there is

I mean I always thought it was pretty stupid lol. Especially when he loses, all that presentation for nothing.

Teddy says things that don’t make sense face first but If you read “The Arc of Boxing: The Rise and Decline of the Sweet Science” you’ll understand where Teddy is coming from. He’s referenced quite a bit .

In one section he says there’s a lot of posturing in boxing and combat sports that didn’t exist during its golden age. For example when sitting on the stool between rounds a fighter would literally sprawl his legs out to let them rest rather than sitting up so as to allow them recover.

Without context a lot of what Teddy says sounds benign but there is justification if you know who he is. He does not say things for effect.

Everyone has their own ritual that works for them.

Teddy is an old school boxing guy so he's set in his ways about what he's seeing, but for me, I just think thats just what Poatan likes to do, so he should do it.

The exact opposite. It's something the fans love to see, and it clearly pumps himself up. He is bringing himself closer to where he wants.

Anyone can lose. That's the risk anyone getting in there has to take. That's why it takes alotta balls to have the appreciated (by most) showmanship.

yea teddys one of those guys that probably thinks everything he says is fact. when youre a glorified anything and people are constantly sucking you off saying youre the best analyst youre ego tends to reach far beyond that of normal folk

I remember when Teddy hated the UFC and stuck to boxing...

Wish he still did, hes a pretentious moron. He epitomises those old boxing talking heads - mafioso sounding/acting old guy Noo Yawker who sniffs his own farts talking about "and wememba back in da day when Joe Fwayza fawt big Jawge Faw'man?"
