Pulled it off for the second time tonight in my collegiate submission wrestling club.
I find this to be ridiculous, and assumed that the guy tapped to avoid the rnc, but the other guys said he looked like he was about to drop dead, and now he says his back hurts.

I appreciate any input. Poor core body conditioning? Sissy? Legit reason to tap?

You should ask Frodo about it.

He holds the honor of being the only person I know to have actually caused a serious injury with it. He broke a guy's ribs with it during a demonstration by accident.

For the record, I have tapped to the pure body triangle on at least one occasion I can think of. Sometimes it's just really powerful and right on your ribs.

A guy I used to roll with in my no-gi class LOVED to use body triangles anytime he got someone's back. He caught me in more than I can count and they hurt like hell, but never enough to tap. The couple times that he did tap me with them, he was more on my side instead of my back and I guess the angle put more pressure on my ribs.

When he had it locked on and was on my back, I held out without tapping for about 2 minutes until the match was over. A week later he locked one on where he was more shifted to my side and I was tapping about 3 seconds after he locked it.

It was about 5 seconds once I had the triangle, and near instantaneous once I pulled my hooked leg's foot back tight.

We were sideways with my bent leg perpendicular to the floor.

I've gotten taps from it and seen other did it too. I've had at least two people pass out from it by accident. If you get the position and pressure just right, it can really crush the ribs.

My instructor actually showed me a technical footlock counter to the body triangle, that uses primarily your legs. I'll be looking for it to turn some heads in well-known competitions. Hitherto, I had never heard of it. He brings back stuff from the blackbelt seminars he goes to.

It's funny, a lot of the more "obscure" techniques that everybody buzzes about when they occur in major competitions, I've known for a while. In no way am I trying to say I'm some sort of grappling god, I just happened to be around the right people to see stuff.

For example, the 10-finger guillotine choke has been a staple of SBG for over 5 years. I learned it in my first month. In the same gym, there was a guy who was notorious for using the infamous Mir/Williams armlock.

I must say, however, that I was among the stunned masses who had never seen the anaconda choke.

^^^
I kind of got off target there. My point was, that I think the classic "uncrossed hooks" is still the best option. What you lose in control you make up for in not being vulnerable to footlocks, and I can tell you from experience that the threat is real.

Yeah you can make people tap.. you can crush the ribs and make it next to impossible for them to get a breath. Honestly though i dont squeeze very hard anymore on my training partners. Its a turd of a submission that your not going to get a top dog to tap to, but it is a good controll position to keep your hips locked to his back.

You might be able to get some lighter guys to submit to it.. or if your in a tournament and need to suck the lfie otu of someone go for it. But while i train.. i would stay away from squeezing the shit out of people.. just so i could use the time to work more flowin with the goin

Was it the body triangle that Overeem tapped to vs Arona?

I think it also works on bigger guys because it's so tight.

It can also work as a spine crank - ask Tony Fryklund about it.

When you really flatten people out with it, it acts like a back crank. I've always found the pressure on the ribs to be at times extremely uncomfortable, but not enough to tap. However, when you crank on someone’s back with it you can definitely tap them.

i really like body triangle just to hold the back. i do it all the time and have yet for someone to tap to me from it. im sure tony fryklund was on the business end of a much meaner body lock though.

I've tapped to one. The guy was wearing a steel cup and had it jammed in my spine.

Is there a benfit to doing these from guard ? Cause these one guy in my class always does it as soon as he pulls/gets gaurd, then I just spend most of the time sitting thee tring to break his gurad.

LOL. Yes, I was kinda shook up that I broke that dude's ribs. If you have short legs like me, the body triangle can be hard to get but also a PITR for the other guy. Now I apply it but not as hard.

I do know a few foot lock counters, so when I get a body triangle I try to hide my foot behind him or use the mat to prevent them.

Not IMHO. They just restrict you a little, but don't seem to hurt as much to me. He is just stalling IMHO. Or trying to hump you.

I usually whisper sweet nothings into the opponents ear once I've body triangled.

Ive tapped to it a couple times...just cause it felt like my kidneys were going to explode, and all i could picture at teh tiem was me pissing blood after class.

if it was a fight it would be different but training...i dont feel like risking it.

SUWEET !!!!!!!!!!

it works great on obese people with little skill. im a little guy at 155 and once its on its hell to get it off.... then once the choke comes it turns into a back crank half the time.
