Tank Abbott

Is poking fun at a stupid, obnoxious shit-heel like Tito really being "toxic"?

In the
Exactly….dont think he is lying about Tito stealing and the other stuff.

I find talking shit about people generally toxic. I don’t indulge (if u can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all)

What’s unique about Abbott is that he seems to be always talking shit about others. I actually cut out of the above interview early just didn’t care for it

Below is a bear. They frolick in large numbers in the 9th and Harrison area of SF. If you’ve seen them it’s impactful. It’s not that I fantasize about anyone’s sex life. Tank immediately hit me as a bear that’s all

Don't apologize. I, too, had the thought of him being a bear, and he is probably my favourite old school fighter for what is worth.

I love MMA, and have watched since a kid in the 90´s. I have and grew up with a gay brother. I NEVER once thought about (lol, not to mention "wasn't sure about") Tank friggin Abbott's sexuality, thought he was a bear, or anything remotely close to it. Revealing from OP indeed!
if you just watched him in the ring you probably wouldn't, but there was a fair amount of gossip around him, thing he would say in interviews, to that effect, plus he used to post here and there's lots of stuff about him that did give that vibe.

Of course the biggest tell is his love of the WCW boyband 3-count ;)

Ho-ly shit Tank has no rhythm.

Back in the day I was chatting with Paul Herrera at King of the Cage event around 2002 or 2003 time, he was one of Tank's best friends, they been best friends for over 30 years, (he also fought once in UFC), anyways he was telling us that Tank had no gimmick in UFC, that was really him, he had this big rep on the streets as the guy who would just knock guys out cold, and that if he saw you with a Golds Gym shirt and you were ripped that he would target you on purpose, and he would just lay these guys out cold. Loved to target ripped guys, would never approach anyone timid or weak looking. Was in and out of prisons and detention centres in the late 80's and early 90's.

So yeah it was 100% real his persona in UFC, no character or gimmick, that was really how he was. He was a violent alcoholic.

There was other things Paul said but I can't remember most of it, totally forgot most of it. I remember something about him saying how strong Tank was and some other stuff like that etc etc.

Met him once at my gym when I was a kid, briefly. He was cool and down to take pictures with all of us. Seemed nice enough, but like I said it was brief.

I can't quote posts any more, I was going to quote everyone talking about his sexuality. He's said he swings both ways (maybe joking, I think it was doing commentary) and Randleman said Tank took them to a gay club. Conversations about his sexuality have been happening for as long as he's been discussed on the internet.

When Vitor beat his ass, that was exciting af. Never saw a fighter as scary as Vitor until then.

Dude is still a complete dickhead. It's just in some people DNA.

He waz a really straight up nice guy when I met him at UFC 17.

We were driving around the hotel & surrounding area of teh event when we saw him walking. We hollered his name & hooted & hollered... & he waved us down for a ride to teh hotel. Of coarse we pulled over. He waz "wider" than expected... took oop my whole back seat. He insisted my friend stay up front while he got in back. We talked to him the whole time & he waz a very cool & down to earth guy, thanked us for teh ride & went on his way.

Bro, that's a great story from ye olden days of the sport!

He wasn't a great wrestler,
That is incorrect, Tank was at one of the toughest places wrestling and did well. He had a knee injury from a car crash that nearly killed him which limited his wrestling movement.

We often talk about his fights but rarely the dude

I’ve seen or heard less than a handful of interviews or talks with Tank. I’ve seen him weep live on air when talking about the time he had a liver transplant and suffered a stroke afterwards and how it put everything into perspective….then immediately stew in toxicity still hating on certain individuals of the sport ie Tito

I was never sure if he was hetero or not…he had this weird bear vibe going I have idea what to think when he’s talking like that and how he looks like my highschool physics teacher now

He stays in touch with some loses touch with others but he was always abrasive. Perfect word for him But when you put the voice to when he was a young skinhead and then it makes sense. Tank always seemed to be a little dark.

Definitely dangerous when he was younger. I think that was his biggest appeal. He looked like an actual murderer.

What else about Tank?

What evidence do you have that he was a skinhead? Because he had short hair at times?

So he was a great wrestler? NCAA All-American or champ? Olympian? No. He was a good wrestler for early UFC, but he was not a great competitive wrestler.

I dont recall his exact level but it was not a weakness of his. .. He had to rely more on brute strength after his knee injury. But still good.

If I was to compare him with any modern fighters level I would say Rumble Johnson. So more than decent.

Someone with more insight can elaborate.
