It didn't matter what phone line you use. If you had an AOL subscription or something, you could tap into it from any phone line.I remember sometime in 1996 I was at my aunt's house and one of her friends came over with his lap top, it was like 3 inches thick when closed, but he could get on the internet by hooking it up to the phone line at my aunts house. Now looking back I wonder how that worked, how was he able to get on the internet at my aunts house when she wasn't paying for any internet provider?
