Multiplat Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon

Just my luck, I downgraded to Extra last year. Ended up playing Grail for about an hour last night (mostly in the starter dungeon/prison with one priest guard and an undead) and really liked it.

I see what Gteh means re: environmental storytelling because some of the flavour text for items I'm picking up are very well written, immediately reminiscent of the Miyazakian. I found this one sketchwork of a scantly-clad woman and the accompanying text was a devilishly well done erotica excerpt.

This game appears to have the figure-it-out friction I like in my journeys + FOV slider for bonus points.

Appreciate Lovestorm and all putting this on my radar.
I'm glad you're enjoying it.

I thought I had every quest wrapped up in Act/chapter 1, then i stumbled onto some small bandit camp I must have ignored previously with a guy locked in a cage. I let him out and it lead me to a quest that unlocked a faction (with more quests) I hadn't seen before.

Edit* Those aforementioned quests continue into the second act/map. I just entered it and I'm glad to learn that we can fast travel between maps.

It really pays to explore, so be sure to cover every inch of the map.

Wyrdhunters, do I want the STP selector for dynamic resolution on or off for the PS5 Pro? Not sure what this is.

Current graphic I’ve preset to is Quality with VSync on. Just looking for optimal experience.

Finally had a chance to put some solid time into second map/chapter.

The main city/settlement is pretty big, more complex, with tons of NPC/quests. The environment is far more intriguing to look at too.

When I first entered the new area last week (North East of first map), I got wrecked by some cool looking dude in a bandit camp. Enemies overall are tougher, but he was next level. He had sweet armor/sword I wanted but couldn't handle him.

Enemies beyond him are tough as well, but thankfully there is another entrance to the second map (more North west).

That leads you towards the new settlement so i'm guessing it's the intended path. Enemies aren't as difficult either.

Anyway, I just made my way to the cool looking dude, unknowingly but more leveled, and got sweet revenge and his gear. Idont have the requirements though, and not close :(.

He's part of a quest you can discover when you loot him, supposed badass Bandit.

I love this game!

They recently released a big patch, so hopefully it helped with console issues or any bugs I haven't run into yet. Apparently it buffs weapon enhancements. I haven't played in week or so, so it feels like I'm hitting harder (melee build).

They are also working on a Steam Deck build (terrible on the deck) and mod support.

I’m on the first map and went into the the blood lake, got wrecked, went and tried the necromancer quest you get from the main camp and got wrecked lol I failed all dialogue options and was forced to fight him. He murdered me.

I figured I was way under leveled and couldn’t really equip any of the cool gear. So now I’m farming ghouls and zombies to make armor for the BS . Collecting bandit bounties and and finding Keeper medallions . Turned it off after that was an hour of game play. Can’t wait to hand certain quests in and hopefully level up some and do some more exploring.

I’m really enjoying the game and the environments . I’m just taking my time and actually enjoying this game quite a bit.

Last night I went and leveled u. Killed 2 bandit leaders and some fetch quests. Went back and talked the necromancer down and he left the crypt lol. 25% chance using practicality to convince him to leave and I somehow passed the check. Did the dungeon in the first castle area and now tonight I’m gonna go and see if I can do the blood lake again.

Lake boy was tough, but you'll get him. I went back to him after a while too.

I'm playing mainly as a melee build, two handed. I use a bit of magic to kill flying skulls from the wyrdness as they are too hard to hit with a bow/sword, otherwise it's smashing time.

If you're doing melee, what changed it all for me was giving my character an extra dash in the skill tree.

Eventually having enough stamina for a charged attack and and at least two follow ups, with enough stamina to escape with a dash, theres no one I cant handle now, with some patience and potions of course.

It's so much fun zipping around the battlefield.

What's your build as?

Once I finish, I'd like to another run as a full mage. I have great mage gear, so I'd prob wait for their NG patch. I've seen some.crazy summoner builds, looks like a lot of fun.

I'm in the 3rd chapter now. It's pretty cool, but so fsr the 2nd chapter is my fav location, there's so much to find.

I was hoping we'd go to Kamelot, but I guess that will be for the follow up.

Right now my build is a sneaky archer. I finally got a decent common war bow and pass the strength and Dec checks to use it. I can one shot any mobs except a boss. I just found the recipe for iron arrows and elemental iron arrows. So many pin cushions lol

Since I took the archer class I got 2 dashes by default. My melee is a +4 bleeding one handed spear. The spear has gotten me out of so many tough situations. Pair that up with summoning 3 wolves for distraction and I run away and pull out my bow again lol.

Blood lake guy kept spamming g his thrust attack which would stun lock me and kill me

Now I figure my wolves and spear should make short work of him.

I’m intrigued with summons cause I can play a hunter class now lol.

I haven’t even met the captain I gotta hand in the quest so faerghas (?) will let me see him…

I haven’t seen anyone from the round table yet, but I saw a spoiler with sir galadhan and was like oh. I can’t wait till I open some more storey lol.

Wait , we don’t get to go to Kamelot?? WTH? Lol , do we actually get to pull the sword from the stone, at least? It’s referenced in the first act. Arthur was saying I have to build up for it lol

So, to people playing it. Does it seem like this is the kind of game that needs a couple months of patches to get where it needs to be?

It’s crashed on PS5 a few times. They released a patch yesterday and it seems to be ok for now. No idea on PC

I prob shouldn't have mentioned Kamelot not being a location, unless it's part of the end in some capacity. Maps/exploration wise, it peaks in chapter 2 thus far.

Regarding the Captain, Sir Galahad, and Excalibur...
You'll meet the Captain and Galahad near the end of Chapter 1, and have some allegiance choices to make. Because you can kill everyone, I was wearing the Captain's gear for the better part of Chapter 2. You'll lift Excalibur as well, but you don't wield it. Each area has something Arthur left behind, which you'll need to be able to access to restore him. Lifting the sword is part of that for the first area.

Galahad is not what I expected, but we're bros lol.

I can't speak for console, but on PC it's been pretty flawless for me. I heard the 3rd chapter was really buggy, but after spending a good 10 hours in there so far, it seems fine. There was a recent patch, so maybe that helped me avoid bad things.

It works well enough on my Steam Deck now, where I've been playing it most.

This was their road map

Roadmap

Also, quite important, we have a roadmap of things to come! What to expect after 1.0?

  • Hotfixes
You can expect quite a lot of them in the next few weeks. Those will be small patches fixing some of the most common bugs and problems.
  • Modding support
In about a month, we will share the first mod tools, with more to come in the following months.
  • Content patches
We might also add some extra content after launch! That said, our team will be taking a much-needed break, so any additions will likely come 1–2 months post-premiere ;)
  • Steamdeck upgrade
We are working on a special build for the steam deck that will improve performance and quality of the play on this console. It will not be miraculous changes, but it should be very noticeable update.

… And hopefully much more later down the line!

I’m about two thirds of the way in now on PC and have not seen many bugs. No crashes. Way smoother roll out than a Bethesda game. It surprised me how big it is and how much there is to do in it as well

New patch released yesterday on PS5. Hopefully they fixed some of the crashing issues
