T-800 Most Intimidating

I'd agree many are but even moreso I think there films that have a very strong basic concept to them rather than films that focus on building up some kind of extended "lore" across more standard blockbuster franchises.

If they carry on any of these franchises I'd preffer they just reboot back to the original, at least they might have some potential with enough talent involved. I spose Shane Black's Predator wasn't too bad but really not much to do with the original concept.

You had me until you praised Shane Black's Predator. What made it stand even slightly above the other franchise-diluting stuff you hold in lower regard?

The T-1000 was definitely awesome. However this terminator gives me nightmares.

I feel like the first terminator film had lots of influences from slasher films of the time, it had horror elements. The rest of the films are sci fi, the main hero is a bad ass robot, they cant and don't even try scare you. The first one was a smaller film.

I wouldn't say "praise" but I enjoyed it more the most of them, really though that was mostly down to being a bit of a piss take on such films from someone with talent for such things, I suspect it would have been better if the studio had kept it more along those lines. I don't think it was really any kind of guide to how these franchises should be done in the future.

They want to carry on these franchises and I think they should remake the originals, that in itself isn't IMHO automatically a bad thing if you have talent involved, a lot of the very best horror sci fi films are remakes/reboots such as Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Thing or The Fly. If Jonathan Glazer for example was ever involved with a bigger budget Hollywood film I wouldn't mind seeing his take on Alien, maybe get Johansson to play the lead.

Terminator was the first "horror" movie for me.

I saw it real young and it was one of my earliest memories

After watching it, I was in my room and my VCR had 2 red lights on it.. I layed in bed paralyzed in fear staring at those 2 red lights imagining that they were Terminator eyes looking at me...

Its also a film that plays on the apocalyptic crime films of the 70's and early 80's, LA is shown in as not so far from the future hell Reese comes from and the Terminator isn't just as sci fi monster, he's a stand in for some mad killer/rapist from that era but with superpowers.

The recent Terminator films haven't been horror stories the way the first two are, they've become standard sci fi action. Plus of course their simply not anywhere near as well made.

The same is true for Alien and Predator, original simple atmospheric horror with some action mixed in that have lost that original attraction over time.

T1, Alien and Predator are the ones I like the most. The fact that they evolved gave us T2 and Aliens, (unlike slashers that just repeated themselves adding more gore, tits or humor). But still is the first the ones I love.

I really hated that they tried to explain the origin of the space jokey in Prometheus, not knowing why that giant alien is dead there is what makes it scary.

Hmmm, these kinds of things lose me once they get into self-aware meta references. But at least the Predator franchise has already been bastardized and lost its reverence, so it's not like doing it in Terminator 3 of all things.

Terminator is a love story. This solider from the future wants to protect the love of his life and Sara herself wants to protect her unborn child.

It’s a beautiful flick.

“I came across time for you, Sarah.”

Ugh... The mystery was nice, but if you're going to solve it, don't solve it with absolute bullshit nonsense.

A dude in a suit that just happens to look like an elephant with ribs sticking out. Riiiiiiight...

I don’t understand how the other terminator movies never reproduce the same terrifying feeling.

The first two films used practical effects, the later films used CGI.
Former is believable because it actually exist. The latter is.. Shit. At least to me. most CGI are shit.

First set of titties I ever saw were Linda Hamilton in that movie.

Wait.. The first film had tits? It's been over 20 years since I saw T1. I don't remember seeing tits.

Do you even Conversation by the Window, bro?

100%. A lot of people don't believe me when this is brought up, but I'll never forget that milestone in my 6 year old life.

Btw 20 years is way too long to go without watching Terminator.

True, at this stage Predator isn't really a franchise were Black's film was stopping a serious attempt to recreate the original being made and I think its rather different to something like T3 in that its really self aware at its core rather than just throwing in a few moments. The more it becomes a standard action film though the less interesting it becomes and I suspect there was a better film their before the studio mandated reshoots. Not really something that was going to reinvigorate a franchise but less objectionable than whats been happening with Terminator recently.

The problem really is that Hollywood execs will invariably take the path of least resistance and with these franchises that's playing to the geek market. By that I don't mean just fans of the original films but rather those who obsess of the minutia of the franchises lore so films are made with that as the "hook" rather than overall quality.

Again I think if they do anything it should be remakes with someone talented in charge that go back to the basic concept and maybe play it in a somewhat different way, keep the budget sub $100 million as well so you don't have to pander to too wide a market.

I would've thought to basement dwelling Mayberry Incels, the T-X would've been the most intimidating

I always thought the path for Predator was obvious. Aged Dutch brought back into action when a new Predator arrives to go hunting.

It's been 30 years, Dutch maybe has PTSD from the first encounter. This new Predator can slightly expand the lore a bit, learn something new about the Predators. Like one little thing. Not fucking two races of predators fighting each other, not a super Predator 10 times the size of a regular predator, not predators trying to fight climate change, not predators trying to put autism into their own DNA.

I mean like, a new weapon or two. That's sufficient.

So basically, something like Rambo 4 but for Dutch.

He goes in as a consultant, like Ripley in Aliens, and ends up getting pulled into the action.

It beats these new teams of 8 people nobody gives a shit about, all the while learning 100 new things about the predators that don't make any sense.

I've really gained an appreciation for Predator 2 with Danny Glover, given what has followed.

I can confirm TS, I am t-800.
