Crime Surgeon vs. Cop - who is wrong here?

I often wonder just how out of touch modern generations and communities are.

It was a very common trope when I was a kid that, the public portrayal of policing, was community service. Doing good to the community. There is almost no good in hindering a surgeon to enforce civil infractions. If anything it's a disservice. It's not about authority, or authoritarianism. When I was a kid Cops were shown as not only having the ability to use their discretion, but of having some sense in assessing the situation and deeming what the right thing to do is. And that depiction was almost always them saying "follow me" and flipping on their lights to escort the Doctor to the location, or the person trying to get the birthing mother or injured person to the hospital. Because they understood that to maintain the public trust, the public needs to feel protected, and they have the ability to both protect the public from the danger of a speeding vehicle by accompanying that vehicle, and giving aid to the injured party even if indirectly.

Nowadays you get further delayed and a lecture more times than not.

Everything you just said-I have done. But from what I saw on the video-there was no proof that there was an emergency unless it came in the last 20 seconds of the video. It’s really easy to prove-show the text or the call. Escort the surgeon. If they’re lying, hammer them. I have seen it both ways many times and I have had people lie about emergencies and I took them to the hospital and watched them squirm as they had to swallow a copay for a bullshit health issue. It amused me.

Yeah I know what on call is, I’m a doctor you dolt lol. If you’re a surgeon on call your ass needs to be there. You could get a case where minutes mean life and death. Otherwise you’re an asshole gambling with people’s lives.
Very cool - I didn't know you were a doctor. What is your specialty?

Can't a cop release the driver and mail tickets if they aren't later given satisfactory proof of emergency? Surgical logs or such?

Aint that an ER doctor? My brother is also internal medicine (ER doctor)
These days it’s general practitioner. I do primary care now. My hospital days are over. ER is its own specialty now, but you can get a job as an ER doctor without doing an ER specific residency.
Internal medicine is a gateway to primary care, general hospitalist, or with the right fellowships any nonsurgical specialty (cardiology, nephrology, infectious disease etc…,)

For a lot of specialists that’s fine. A surgeon doing that is an asshole. A surgeon on first call is going to be doing surgery that night so just fucking be there.
Sure thing what was your last account again doctor?

I'd sue the sh*t out of all the clowns if I died while waiting on my surgeon...

Ok so obviously she has to provide proof that she’s a surgeon. If she is, the fuck flip the lights on and she’s off her to the hospital. Cops should be trying to protect life. Then , send her a ticket in the mail if what Ashe was doing was particularly egregious

Fuck that female cop acting callously like that. She may be pissed at the surgeon but the patient is the one that’s paying the price. That patient could be anyone in the world. There’s no reason to punish them for the surgeons mistakes.

Exactly. If cops aren’t going that and are actually causing harms to citizens through callous indifference, then we don’t fucking need them. That female cop should be reprimanded. Technically right doesn’t mean you did the right thing.

Isn't that no longer being on call but just working if you must be at the hospital?

No they aren’t technically the same thing. A nonsurgical specialty may not necessarily have to be the hospital to put in orders and advise staff while on call. On call and rounding are two different things. If you’re in call You have call rooms to sleep in, watch tv, etc. If you’re on call, you’re considered working no matter what kind of call you’re doing, even if you aren’t actually rounding or seeing the patients. Whether you’re taking calls at a remote location and advising people or you’re taking hospital call, it’s still considered working.

At a hospital i worked at once, they required their trauma surgeons to be on site while taking call. If you’re in call as a surgeon, your cases are not going to be elective, they’re gonna be emergencies. Not a good look when you’re needed and everyone is waiting on you

Both are entitled douches imo.

The surgeon could have caused an accident and killed someone else while speeding to save a life so despite the circumstances she shouldn’t be speeding.

That said the female cop’s attitude was also douchy and she came off as an unreasonable power tripping boss girl.

Moral of the story for me, women should neither be cops nor surgeons.
Absolutely correct
