Surely the Winner of Thompson vs MacDonald is the 2nd Best Welterweight?

personally i have almost 0 interest in watching woodley fight robbie i would rather have seen thompson get a shot at the title, but since that didn't happen surely the winner of this fight gets the next shot at the title?
 
I don't know. I mean, probably, but I can't be 100% sure when there's still Carlos Condit in the mix. The title shot, yeah, probably goes to the winner of this fight - but as for the 2nd best welterweight, I really need to think more about it.

Yeah right now it's like a 3 way tie for #2 with MacDonald, Wonderboy, and Condit.
 
I doubt Condit gets a rematch without at least winning another fight first. But then again all he had to do last time was beat Thiago Alves, so who knows.
 
The top of the WW division is just ridiculously stacked. A number of fighters can make an argument to be considered #2.
 
Really would love to see Wonderboy pull this win off and face Lawler. I have an immense amount respect for Rory and Carlos, but I'd love to see a new opponent against him.

It should be Lawler/Wonderboy at UFC 201 instead imo.
 
Yes. If it wasn't for "woodleys promise", wonderboy would have been fighting for the title next
 
If Wonderboy beats Ro-mac impressively which I hope doesn't happen, I'll have no problem branding him the BEST welterweight and I'll be happy Lawler will have to fight somebody who won't let him get a robbery win from the judges, let's be honest Lawler has arguably lost 2 of his last 3.

I don't know. Rory has lost to Lawler twice fairly recently and Condit is still in the mix. Apparently he decided he'd like to fight more. I have Condit as 2nd best now. I'd like to see him fight Thompson and also rematch with Rory and Lawler.

I would watch any mix of the 4 fight though.

If I have to name someone the #2 it would have to be Condit. He should be champ FFS.

I also believe Robbie is going down to Woodley. I've never seen a guy want to fight his teammate so bad. Tells me he's already whooped that ass once or twice in practice.
 
Yes, I agree. BUT if Rory wins, I want Maia to get the next shot. This might be his only chance.
 
The winner of this fight is the best imo

Lawler is the least dominant defending champ in history. imo he was gifted his decision vs hendricks, then barely squeaked by rory and condit. came back to win both those fights in the 5th. i think lawler goes on a losing streak very soon. that said, woodley is probably his easiest test when you look at the contenders. i think wonderboy, rory, condit, and diaz all beat him. gsp too. then you have maia who is probably a tougher test than woodley

woodley is good but i dont see him being a contender for long either. him and lawler will be totally out of the title picture in 12 months imo

If Wonderboy gets by Rory he definitely gets the shot. If Rory wins he should have to beat Condit to get another crack
 
Let's not forget that Maia can potentially backpack+grind them all to dust.

UFC you cant tell shit, if woodely looses a close decision does he bacome the second best? I say hell with the rankings have some fun fights that people want to watch.
